If im not mistaken the 800 isnt set in stone, but isnt R53 tuning like 400 or somewhere right around that!? I just saw that (R53 price) for the June 13-14 event in Louisville.

Why is it potentially twice as much? Besides dyno time...

It's just $800 seems so much for a tune when Alta's stuff will be cheaper and it comes with the hand held to re-tune whenever you want.

It only made 202hp at the wheels, but the dyno read about 15hp low, so around 217hp. My car was running really lean before the tune tho, so with bigger injectors and Jan's magic it runs incredibly smoother now and pulls a lot harder.

Development...the R56 ECU is a b!tch....

Hopefully it works. You get what you pay for . Good to see that some people on here are beginning to realize that too.

800 for a quality ECU tune is not a lot...considering how much it can cost for some other cars, with very little in gain. Just because we have a MINI unfortunately does not mean that the stuff for it is going to be cheap.

I mean I can see $500 - $600 being reasonable but $800 just to me seems a little over the top.

Then don't get it lol. I will tell you, its worth every penny though.

People are lining up all over the country for it, so that would indicate they think the price is just. $500 to tune this ECU? You know...the one that took 3 model years to get into? Not gonna happen

Thumper's right BigJoe! Seriously, your going to be happy you put your car in Jan's hands. Read the R53 forums about him before you decide. The guy is a genius with the MINI.

Of course your money is your money, but you mentioned ALTA. ALTA had a product, the Unichip, that they claimed was the best. Then once it failed, they cut ties to it and everyone else was left to deal with it themselves.

Try and call ALTA and get customer service for it - aint happenin...I'd rather deal with a guy who I know has a remarkable rep that speaks for itself.

In the end, if you still decide not to do it, maybe you can still come out and meet Jan for yourself and find out what all the hype is about!

Not to mention the machine he uses costs 10's of thousands of dollars. He has to pay for it somehow.

I'm pretty sure the $800 includes the dyno time. It's not bad at all. $800 worth of hard parts won't get you the increase the tune will.

EDIT: YEP includes dyno time

to ya! Some want to look fast and some want to go faster. Do which ever one you prefer in whatever order you want. But if Jan comes near you, you should jump on it since you don't know how long it will be until he comes around again.

I'm trying. Jan is working on his tunes, traveling across the country right now. When he responds, you people will be the first to know! I stay very updated with his replys to ensure we can plan for this.

I could not agree more MM! Like I said BigJoe, if your not doing anything that day, come out and meet us and see why MINI owners rejoice in his presence!

Thanks MM for clearing up the costs of his time/effort/tuning.

Good to see you on here Christophe! Yes, May 21st. We can definitly cruise up there together, it will make the long drive seem much shorter.

What HP are you currently at?

Sounds good...I would love to take the R53 and talk shop more often! I am not really up to date on the various runs and rallys. Now that I joined NAM I will be able to be enlightened and stay in touch with all the great happenings!
