I remember Jan saying you couldn't run as much boost as the other cars because of your intercooler. Not sure why but that's what I remember him saying, unless I misunderstood

I highly doubt any conspiracy and Dave is right. Your IC, although very large in diameter is very thin. Also remember, temperature change and climate temps will have a greater impact on your car because its so thin.

I haven't really pushed the car wot recently and I'm getting about 15 to 16 psi. Maybe Tyrolsport can make an IC large like the one you have, but make a thicker core. I'm not sure the reason exactly, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but my numbers havent dropped dramatically like that, which would lead me to believe its not the RMW Tune.

I remeber Jan saying something about the intercooler , but I kept quiet because we didn't tested it yet under high boost. Now that we tested the unit with 5 back to back runs with nominally 0 hp/tq loss I do t understand why he couldn't go higher in psi . Our core is thin for a reason to release heat while driving, quicker than thicker cores.

Here's a quick update : with my setup we decided to experiment how the stock intercooler would handle against high boost. By simply swapping back to stock intercooler and relatively cold engine , we lost 30whp/20wtq. And when we did 4 back to back runs we kept on loosing more where max came out to be 38whp/26wtq loss.

Jan said the VVT maps (Vanos) will not be ready for the local tunes in NY and PA. Oh well, I guess we will wait for the flash tool.

So are you saying that a bigger intercooler will result in lower numbers?

Thanks,

Mark

I think what was happening was on the dyno because of the thinner walls of the intercooler on his car, it was getting heatsoaked faster. Just a guess as to what might have happened. I believe Jan would only increase boost as long as the intercooler could handle it. Just my opinion on what I saw, only Jan can say for sure why he limited the boost on that car.

Why, is Alta's intercooler's walls thinner than most? I installed a Forge intercooler just for Jan's tune. I hope it does what it's suppose to.

NO, MiniPolack's intercooler is as big as a radiator but very thin as compared to Alta's or Forge.

Yeah, the thinness is the only down side to his IC. Thing is massive though

No, this is from Rev. (DevToaster) on the iphone/itouch with the data coming from a Plex wifi.

I can sort by RPM. I really need to do a longer run, this was a short sample running up Hwy 42 which is not the best place to data log.

I'm working on some graphing in excel, we shall see how it all goes. Lots of data gets sampled.

Can you elaborate on the part about the iphone? That sounds interesting. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

I think this is a misunderstanding. Any intercooler will absorb a specific amount of heat over a period of time based upon it's mass. If you have a thin, tall intercooler, and a smaller yet thick intercooler of the same weight (same amount of material), they will theoretically absorb and dissipate an equal amount of heat.
Introduce air flow. The TyrolSport intercooler uses a taller core to take advantage of two airstreams. One uses the lower half of the grille in the bumper, and the second uses air from the upper grille. A comparable intercooler may have an equal mass, but the effect on the rate at which it cools the intake charge will be different.
