Alta CAI missing piece?

Hey guys i just bought the cai from alta and from seeing pics of other pps cai installed i think my cai is missing something.

Also on the altaminiperformance.com website they have pictures of the cai showing a ruberish looking trim on the black metal mold that holds the cai + tubes.

Here is the picture.
Alta CAI missing piece?-cai-question.jpg

I already emailed adam, but he hasnt answered back so i guess il just ask you guys since most of you have this mod.

can i be able to install the CAI and then put on the rubber seal afterwards? or is the rubber seal an "essential" part for the cai to function properly.

It looks like it's just a trim piece to pretty it up. Check inside the filter, maybe they stuffed it somewhere ?

I really wish these companies would quit calling it a CAI when it's an open filter in the hot engine compartment. Make sure you clean your MAF after a few weeks, the oils in the cotton & foam filters can F them up very quickly.

Me thinks you need to return that. It looks like it's bent as well.

They call it a CAI because it IS a CAI. You open your hood scoop, thus allowing cooler air to pass over the engine. It also sucks air from the stock fresh air pipe underneath. Sure you can go overkill and funnel the air via a pressurized system, but they cost a lot more and if you look at the dyno charts, you're not really gaining anything by doing it.

I just removed my filter to clean it since the warm weather is firmly in and took a couple pictures in case they're any help to you.

I seem to have lost a bolt (been installed 1.5 years), so I'll have to replace that, and wash my engine too! I didn't realize how dirty it had gotten.

Surprisingly, the CAI feels like it's just as securely fastened even missing a bolt, I didn't get any sense that it really felt loose at all.

First, the stock intake, while a bit restrictive, is a true CAI, as is the better flowing JCW stage1 intake.
Second, intakes like the DDM race or M7 AGS-R aren't going to show much difference on a dyno because the car isn't actually being driven, it's sitting still inside a shop with some pathetic fan trying to keep everything cool.
I could fry an egg on my hood after a hard or long drive, you're not going to convince anyone but the deluded Alta faithful that the open filter is a true cold air intake It's about the cheapest intake on the market & sounds cool, but you get what you pay for (unless the forget some of the parts).

simple no other word to describe it.
I was rly scared of turning it on after 6+ hrs installing everything (with short lunch breaks), mainly becuase there was like 4 people looking and "helping" which kinda made some things slower.

Its a real beast now, it comes alive!

thanks for the help guys.

Wow. *sigh*

Yeah, I'm not going to hijack this thread and get into this AGAIN.

(Is there an emoticon for "slapping forehead"?)

Seeing this I am glad that I got my intake cause it did make a difference in freeing up some air flow but, it is not a true cold air intake. If it wasn't for the fact that it the car would throw a code and probably run like crap a true CAI would run from the turbo right into the grill with the shortest amount of tubing. Now if you want to go crazy and get a stand alone ecu so that you can run an intake like that.

already spoke to adam, he said the CAI changed from the 1st version since the 1st version would get in the way if you installed a strut brace on your car.
this version alows a strut brace to go in without having to modifiy your CAI.

Sorry for not replying in here!

We have a new version shipping now (and shown above) but haven't updated our website. Sorry bout that!

But the new system is now able to fit most popular front braces including m7, JCW, upcoming ALTA and most others.

Eliminated the seal for a cleaner look.

Lighter weight construction that previous.

Nothing mind blowing, just the typical ALTA progression and evolution.

Questions? Just let me know!

Thanks folks!
