R55 Milltek exhaust

Just took delivery of a Milltek Catback exhaust system for my R55S, i am a little disappointed at the quality of the welds (and the horrible packing job). It didn't come with a downpipe, but as the stratmosphere website point out in the list of products that you recieve with the exhaust, it is meant to.

NEW Milltek Sport 2008-on (R56) Mini Mk2 Turbo Clubman Exhaust

Catback exhaust, two tip choices. Custom as shown and twin ovals

Downpipe and cat (using HJS 200-cell cat)

Gain of 27bhp already verified on a stock car with the full exhaust installed

2.5" diameter pipes with 100mm tips

Either i read it wrong or they forgot to send me a part.

Also, i am trying to get the V band mounting clamp on the mid-pipe off and it is troublesome as the clamp won't seperate? The V band mounting flange also looks as if it is orientated the wrong way on the milltek pipe making me think that it won't mate up properly to the stock downpipe.

I would apreciate any support on this espacially if others have had similar problems. Or maybe i am just mistaken about the flange?

Interesting.I notice that their muffler is farther back then norm.Wonder how this effects sound/drone?
Speaking of the stratmosphere exhaust, not of the milltek

On the site, one of the points say it comes with a downpipe but where you click on buy, it says "catback", thats akward.

The website is a bit confusing. I have the Milltek catback for my R56, so I am not sure if I could be of much help to you. Mine went together just fine and it mounted right up to the stock downpipe. Good luck

I have the same exhaust on my clubman. everything mounted up fine but I started getting a rattle when i would first start the car. I was rubbing slightly on the bracket that goes underneath of the exhaust. Other than that and some minor tweaking and adjusting it all bolted up fine.

Remove the bolts from the x brace ( assuming thats what your taulkin(accent) about?). Take some washers and shim it that way ti sits a lil lower and wala.

Its more of a plate than a X ( I removed it anyways) but I may end up doing that but I really don't see the benefit of it so who knows if I'll ever make the time to do it. Other than that I was really impressed with the quality of the exhaust and thought it was packaged almost too well(took me forever to get it all unwrapped and untaped).......

Huh, mine came in a large square box, the parts were criss-crossed sitting on top of each other, hence they're all scratched up, and one of the mufflers is a little dented. I had a Lexus IS350 before my MINI, the HKS system that i bought for that was flawlessly packed so that all the parts would not rub together and scratch eachother.

Not such a huge deal seeing as most of the system won't even be visible, i just expected better for such a high price tag..

Does anybody have any bright ideas on how to remove this clamp that joins the V band connector to the Cat? I've been hitting it with a hammer for about 5 mins with no luck.

Thx

Yes, got it off finally, it just needed some serious force and some needle nose pliers. Sadly i broke my gearbox shifter linkage when installing a helix quick shifter, waiting on a replacement part from MINI, then i'll get back to installing the exhaust.

The saga continues. I have finally gotten round to putting my Milltek exhaust on and yet again i have run into a bunch or problems which John at Stratmosphere is attempting to resolve.

Firstly, in order for the exhaust system to hang flush and tight to the underside of the car, you have to tighten it up pretty well, if not all the joints simply rotate and the system sags, so i tightened it up pretty well and the next day i found that one of my clamps had cracked. My question is, what the hell kind of system is this? Surely with vibration and temperature change, the entire thing would move about and need constant tightening to maintain it's shape.

Secondly, as i was finishing up the system and installing the tips, the right one went on just fine, the left one however just would not go on, after i looked at the muffler i found that the welded support brace was touching the muffler tip and not allowing for anything to be slipped onto it. Yet again i am astounded at the bad craftsmanship of this system, especially considering the price!

Anybody else having these problems?

I am so sorry to hear about your problems with that exhaust. I have the Milltek for my R56 and it is great. It doesn't leak and everything is holding on just fine. It looks like you need a new exhaust. From what you stated about the packing, I would question whether it was new or a defect or something. Keep us posted.

Your welds do like pretty nasty. Mine didn't look anything like that. I'd contact who you got it from.

I just spoke to one of the tech guys in England, he was very apologetic and assured me that he would get right on it. I'm putting my stock exhaust back on. Grrrr
