I've had my ED downpipe on for roughly 6-8K miles.

NOT ONE CEL.

I did have one problem. The bolts backed off and allowed the downpipe to pull away from the turbo.... not once, but twice.

Each time it cost me a new valve cover (600 bucks the first time, 300 the second time when I did it)

This time I doublenutted it so it shouldn't be an issue.

But no CEL's...

I can't say I've had similiar luck with the CEL issue. I started getting one about 5000 miles after installing it and have been struggling with it every since. I was getting the p2096 post-cat too lean code. Hector sent me an 02 extender piece (just because we couldn't think of what else to do) that I just put on the other day, and the CEL came right back with a new code as well p0141 - which has to do with the 02 sensor malfunctioning I'm not sure where to go from here. I'm hoping the new Tune from Jan will eliminate it somehow.

You should get someone to weld on a stand-off/brace where the factory one normally is. There's no reason for the downpipe to work free, at least as long as you're using the proper exhaust nuts.

Oh, don't worry...lol. Not only did I doublenut them, I made a bracket and welded it to the the downpipe exactly where the stock bracket was. Then I bolted it to the engine just like stock.

I highly doubt that crap will come loose again.

Hmmmm, now that you've made that bracket, can you fab another to sell? Pics? I may be able to do something myself. Thanks Mark.

Gordon,

Fabbing one wouldn't be too bad but duplicating what I did won't happen again only because I used a bracket and modded that bracket. Point is, unless I have the same bracket to start off with, I'd have to start from scratch.

I'll take pics when I get a chance.

Oh wow, I wonder if it made a difference since you have a JCW, did Hector's DP for the S fit yours also? Also have driven 15k miles and no CEL to date. ( Minus the CEL from Miami's dreadful flood in December )

I couldn't tell you, I never had the exhaust on my S. Perhaps someone will chime in and let us know if the downpipe is the same for an S and a JCW.

OH I FORGOT!!!!

Today I got my first CEL. P0133 I was getting ready to drive to the shop and get my scan tool but realized I had my Scangauge II with me.

Firgures as soon as I open my mouth, I get a code.

I'm sure it was a glitch, I cleared it and we'll see.

What's the latest OC? Do you think the CEL is due to the downpipe or unrelated?

I have a question that will likely reveal my total noobness on all things exhaust: is there any point in upgrading the downpipe (say, to Hector's) but attaching it to a stock S exhaust? On the flip side, do you get much of a power gain by upgrading the catback exhaust (I'm not interested in catless) while keeping the stock downpipe?

No, I don't think the CEL was related to the DP. I did some checking and am pretty sure it was a glitch in timing of sensors reading and boost levels.

I cleared it and haven't seen it since. Like I said before, I've got at least 6-7K miles on the car and haven't seen one CEL.

Also, IMO, I'm not sure if I were to do it all over again that I would change out exhaust and downpipe. I'm sure it makes a difference but I'm pretty sure it's neglible.

Let's say it gives you an extra 5-7WHP or TQ. For the 1000+ cost, I'd stick with the stock stuff. I may be wrong and it may net more than that but after having Jan do his tuning, I'm gonna stick with the majority of all power is in the tune.

In that case, I'll plan on taking what I've got to Jan for a dyno tune once we have the flash tool in hand. It's great that Jan is less than an hour away...

Probably should think about putting in a Forge IC at some point, as I hear that is the one mod that gives good bang for the buck.

OC - Did you find out the error code? I've been battling the p2096 code from my DP. Also, IMHO the DP definitly added some nice pull from about 3000 rpm on that wasn't there with the stock setup. I'm hoping the tune takes advantage of the DP and catback (and all the other silly Tubes, intakes, etc) I have spent blood, sweat, tears, and $$$$$$ on

I hope so cause that's what I end up running..

Originally I used all of Exhaust Depot's full exhaust which is 2.5 all the way. The problem is the Magnaflow muffler is fiberglassed and was starting to break down and getting too loud.

So I installed a JCW Stage I muffler. I had to use a reducer (since the JCW is like 2 1/4) but it sounds ABSOLUTELY PERFECT.

Growls like it should, no droning, sounds just the way I like it.

Great news... so with a reducer is it a simple JCW exhaust bolt on to the DP assembly?
