I doubt your sniffer station will realize that a cat belongs in the rear because the second o2 is behind the main cat. I would not worry about it.

ya know, i've had a total of about 8 smog tests done at different places, standard and test-only and they've never looked under the car. as long as your main cat allows a pass, i doubt they'd bother lifting the car to check that the 2nd unmonitored cat is in place.

Hector,

I haven't put my MINI on a dyno (yet) but what difference are we looking at with your DP compared to stock? There are some who have jumped on here claiming that since yours is only 2.5 and doesn't throw a CEL, that it only has 5HP gain? I think those are bold statements cosidering that my butt dyno proves differently! What is your secret??? We get HP and no CELs.

LOL.

Honestly everyones dyno numbers will vary. If you have a catback with no cat vs one with a cat etc.

Also it is impossible to make a direct fit bolt on pipe that is 3". For one, no one sells a full 3" downpipe. You cant put a 3" bend coming off the turbo because the pipe is to big and it will touch the alternator. Second, after the cat , you cant go 3" because the flange that connects to the OEM catback connection is smaller than 3". So their you have it, no one makes a true 3" downpipe.

I dont know what the reasoning is behind the person saying that it only yeilds 5hp but i can say that it is speculation on their part. If the DP makes 1hp or 30 hp, all i can say is that with the DP on as you can confirm, you feel a very SIGNIFICANT difference in power. More than you do with a catback, more than intercooler pipes and more than an intercooler! Also it is not a placebo effect because the sound for the most part does not change. I have seen people loose HP from an exhaust yet they think its faster because of the sound.

I will tell you this. My wife drove the MINI today for the first time with ED downpipe and she couldn't believe how much more it pulled. She also couldn't keep her foot off the gas

Hey MiniManiac and those with the ED downpipe already,

Is gas mileage affected?

Yes...because you will be flooring it more to feel the power and sound

Really though, with pretty much any 'free-er flowing air' type mod, your gas mileage should increas...in theory. Everything will be more efficient.

Gas mileage is terrible!! Hector really screwed-up on this one because I can't keep my foot off the gas

Seriously, I see about the same if not better.

Its funny you guy say this. I have locals come in and they ask me if their mileage goes up. I tell them yes and no then explain how they will shift at a higher RPM because it sounds like music some of the systems I do. For example this one here. :

I dont know if it would work on a MINI but "back in the day" we used to just put a resistor in line with one of the O2 sensors (cant remember if it was pre or post cat) this would cause the ECU to see a difference in the two sensors and it would think that there was a functional cat in place. I would have to defer to someone that is smarter on the MINI as i dont know if it would work in this case.

Ah the good old simulator. I would use a resistor, capacitor and a diode in my setup, that way it wouls oscillate vs just giving a lower value.

I am very patient in case you cant tell. Just kidding Diego, no rush. I will just be over here holding my breath.

Oh P.S. If my downpipe smells like pee I know who to blame (hector)

(the above comment is in reference to a different thread, I didn't want anyone to get the wrong idea )
