I know product development is hard for you to understand seeing you have never designed and produced a single part for the Mini aftermarket. You have a Mini repair shop that does bolt-ons from real manufactures. I get it but please try to understand that manufacturing takes time to do it right the first time.

What I have a hard time understanding with mods like this is, how does a person in California run this kind of stuff on the street? I mean we had a guy smog his car and the shop told him to go home and remove his paper air filter. I just don't understand how engines so heavily modded are getting thru? Do you guy's run these strickly as race cars? Or take everthing off when smog time rolls around? Thing is the police can now look under a hood if they think a car is illegal. And this is not directed to just you guy's LB, it's to everybody, like the Cabrio done up by Johnnys also. I can see the people from AZ with the turbo conversions being ok because they are from AZ. I don't know, I just don't get it

PS. I don't have any problem with " Mini repair shop that does bolt-ons" In my opinion these are the guy's in the trenches everyday fixing what "real manufactuers" are making. Again this is not directed at just RMW either, it's all manufactures.

Looks like you have a lot of things that could keep you from passing.

Your mods:

If it means I stay as a Mini repair shop and that means i can go racing then so be it

I can understand putting the effort in as a manufacture for the 900 but not the 1320, but fair play to Jan for investing in CNC machines and premises etc etc to make that big leap to manufacturer.

I know, that's what i'm saying. I will have to take off my header, intake and even my IC diverter. Luckily things like heads and cams are harder to see . But giagantic shiny things in the engine compartment and other things missing are alittle harder to cover up.

Just me ~

It's all about the searching for those shady back-alley smog stations. It also really depends on the area. I live in Fullerton, which isn't as strict as Brea. I've seen quite a few friends get pulled over in Brea just for not having a front license plate.

Or better yet, just find a place that will pass your car...on the DL. They certainly exist.

I know I had a few in the Valley when I had my 600HP Mustang....

On a side note...on my last LA trip I got pulled over doing 120 on the 5 freeway. They almost seized my car right there. Not for speeding but for the extensive mod list ans what my car was set up for. He said if I was from CA he would have crushed it. But luckily for me....my whole family is LAPD/LACS/US Marshals.... I never get tickets....

What do the tests include then?? if its just exhaust gases then there is no reason a modded MCS shouldnt pass.

It is a combination of exhaust gas and a visual inspection. The question being raised here is more of how do some of the more obviously modified cars plan on passing the visual inspection whether at the smog station or during the ever more frequent hood popping situations by the local authorities . Our local gathering last week and 3 hoods popped and one car taken away on a flat bed. Granted I live in So California which is most likely the top of the list restriction wise.

Randy,

Getting off topic...was that a Mini that was towed away? Did they look under your hood?

No it wasn't a Mini . This little meet up gets about 300+ cars on a wed night but only a few Minis . On this particular occasion the LAPD sent in 6 motorcycle cops and 8 to 10 cars and surrounded the lot. Then as people left they inspected everyone and either directed them to the " get your ticket here " line or let them go . They were there for about 3 hrs and wrote perhaps 100 tickets which was entertaining for those of us standing around and watching . I have exhibited / attended about every police sponsored auto show etc. in the area so they usually cut the old man a break and leave me alone I don't think they will have the task force out again for tonights get together but it will be interesting to see

Too bad Jan wont be there. I will be there on Friday for the Speedventures track day. I'll let you guys know what I run. Last time at Buttonwillow 13CW I ran a 2.12.3, this time the goal is a 2.09.xxx

Since the last time the only changes are TCE BBK, Rear seat delete (-31lbs), Borla Sport Exhaust (-21lbs), H Sport 25.5mm rear sway bar up from their 19mm bar, TSW Rear lower control arms, and a alignment that is dialed in perfectly. Hopefully 50lbs less, 3 more HP, and much better confident braking will get me 3.3 sec!

Going to try and get up there and watch you guys. I know Danny will be running in the street class on street tires. We put a 15% pulley back on his car and retuned it for the track so he is down on hp from where he was. Being the first time there it will be fun to see what he runs

Best to give him a wide berth as he likes to throw dirt
