ECU/software upgrade

Ok, i came to a fork in the road, dont want to wait anymore, unless you will persuade me or know exact date of a better software to come out. Im about to order UniChip, simply because i starve for more power. SO i have heard rumors about Giac doing something ( right after they finish toying around with the MKV gti ) , what are we Giac , chop liver??? common...EvoTech supposobly is a rip off? the ecu update doesnt do anything or something of that sort...and well, UniChip, are on a ver.4 plug so far ( being that previous plugs were failing???) well i hope they got it right already....becasue besides the plugs, i noticed most of the people are happy with their product, so thats the way i want to go for now ( TAX rebate is coming LOL) .....People YEY for it or NEY and wait???

Get a real tune. I had a "Useless" Chip and constantly had to deal with fault codes

I'd wait for a flash from a handheld flashing device, and not do the unichip

Drsilvermini: umm, unfortunately, 07 and 08 models ECU insides differ. I already tried getting GIAC through my friend ( tyrolsport) he flashes VW/Audi, etc everyday, he is a dealer for Giac. And after receiving a fax with a photo of the inside of the ecu, to confirm if my mini was a 08 model but prior to february production. it isnt, its a march production, therefore my ecu is different and i couldnt get that software, i dont know why Helix doesnt update that , maybe thats why it says call to order, LOL...

Sorry didn't know that. Although I would be cautious about the Unichip, I have heard the Unichip has had a lot of problems. Good luck!

RMW and Alta are both apparently working on solutions, although no official release date has been set.

LOTS of problems with the UniChip I purchased from Alta:

1) CEL codes from 1st start after install.
2) Module attachment collars break even when installed with due care.
3) Module covers have come unglued.

The CEL's were thrown on a stock '08 MCSa with no mods at the time. The modules have been sitting in a box for months although the wiring and actual chip are still installed.

I am going to contact Adam direct for a possible answer.

With the mods I've installed so far, I'm anxious to see if remedies for these problems are available and if tuning to my mods will make a dramatic difference.

Minor thread steal

Does anyone know if I can just get the software upgrade portion of the JCW tune done without purchasing the exhaust/intake?? TIA

In all fairness to ALTA and UNICHIP. I have had their system for almost a year. At first there where some issues, but unichip sent me a new (4th gen) harness and no problems at all since then.

No if I dont let my car warm up, and turn on overboost and just punch the he** out of it I do get a P115, but thats because i didnt let the o2 sensor warm up ( I think). I clear that and everything is fine.

If I let the car have a short warm up period, Im not talking a long time here, then NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. I have taken mine on and off atleast 30 times and have never broken a constion (Oh shoot, now I did it. Im sure it will break next time, Knock on simulated wood fiber board that it doesnt)

Nope. It's tied to the VIN and you'll still be paying for the entire kit.
