I believe if you are wiling to 'extend' your harness that you don't have to cut anything. You might find that if you open up the wire harness shielding that you can gather enough slack for that plug to reach. Better then cutting for sure.

As long as you know how to solder and use shrink tube, cutting and extending isn't a problem. Add 2 inches of wire and you should have plenty.

If I knew what I do today I would have never put an AGS on my car. The BMW engineers who engineered the OEM SC Plenum know exactly what they are doing.

From personal experience the AGS just gives you a louder SC WHINE is all I didn't notice anything that the other owners have talked about and all I got was getting flatbedded to the dealer and a big repair bill. Once the OEM tube was put back on the car felt stronger and my IAT's went down which was great and I even gained some MPGs too. Stick to the proven stuff not something that may sound AMAZING but just doesn't have any rewards other then sound or a BIG repair bill.

If you have seen the factory intake plenum you will see there is an area that is flat well that is there for clearance reasons between the radiator fan motor housing and the tube.

Some of the most powerful factory SC MCS's to name one Danny of MINICorsa making 282whp is seeing absolutely no problem with the factory intake plenum. The thing to realize is why fix something when there is nothing to fix.

i wasn't planning on installing the ags for performance but more for the sound and as one more thing to make the car unique, as there really is no performance gain.
is there anything that can be done to ensure that there is no damage to the ags? i read someone hammered the crap out of it for clearance and that another made aluminum spacers but the bumper didn't line up
how many others have experienced the problem pictured above?

Everything was done right it was the fact that the factory tube has no problems with flow, etc. So if there is no problem why fix something that is perfectly fine.

If you want a loud SC get a CAI and take the sound deadening out on the underside of the hood you will for sure be hearing more SC and motor all together. Thats what I have done I haven't had a problem with the engine heat to the paint or any bad stuff you may think of.

To conclude .......So if there is no problem why fix something that is perfectly fine and well engineered.

Ya I tore the blanket off of my car and opened up the back of the airbox to get better airflow. I like the sounds that my K&N intake sounds.....the new part that they include in their system looks good and functions just as well as stock IMO. And the RED color totally adds like 10 hp! hahaha

For the hot-rodder in everyone, there’s the M7 Air Gain System. A little rough around the edges, and a pain in the you-know-what to install, but our labors paid off in the end with a solid victory in the power wars. The AGS managed to up-stage the Alta by three horsepower, rising above the rest with 175.0 hp @ 6500 rpm and a 169 ft/lbs peak torque rating, available at 3800 rpm. As the charts indicate, the M7 and Alta are nose-to-nose until about 4400 rpm, when the M7 begins its ascent to rise above the Alta by three horsepower. This results in a total delta over stock of 6.8 hp and 3 ft/lbs of torque.
The AGS is proven to make 3 more whp than the Alta CAI. I don't know what was wrong with yours, but I noticed it with my car as well.

Oh yeah.... I totally forgot about "THE FITMENT" issue... I guess didn't see that in the installation guide... oh yea, no one mentioned it
Say what?? hammer that tube???? oh well back to the stock parts as they work better than most after market crap out there today

I say save yourself the headaches and go for HAI (man.. you should try to take the filter off for cleaning... good luck with that too)

Comparing a CAI to the AGS is misleading and incorrect because your actually comparing two different SC intake plenums which is after the throttle body. For personal experience and the fact I ran the AGS with and without the filter and same with the stock plenum and they felt the same on the road and on paper at the dyno +/- IAT's. I am just stating what I experience in what was the start of a year long streak of bad luck with the car and today the car is finally back to normal.

I had AGS v.2 on previous MCS for about a year did not have any probs with it, but it was v.2 the 2nd plastic one, and Johnnys installed it. There was some concern with IAT's but nitro (not on nam anymore i think) read them as normal, but little higher at standstill. I did dremmel a large slot on shroud though for air to come in and it had the CF heat sheild. The install was a PITA though even for Johnnys.
BTW: I needed a tube of Permex Sillicon ATV, I bought the most expensive tube a "Gold RTV" or something like that. Not sure if aluminum v.3 one needs it. It did sound great though!

-haters keep hating (i think i'm on your side but the youtube video and my spent money are still rooting for the install)
