I see a lot of these being offered. My question is which ones have the same shift **** mount as the factory set-up. I've got a Whalen shift **** and DO NOT want to sacrifice that for sure. Thanks for the help!

The new ProMini Short Shift kit used the factory **** mount as the model and any shift **** that fits the factory setup will work with no problems on the ProMini Short Shift kit. Also the short shift kit is 10% off right now.

If you want the stock **** to fit then the Promini Short shifter for about $125 is good.
The B&M looks very similar to the Promini.

A comparison of B&M vs Stock

and the B&M

I would highly recommend the B&M Short Shifter. It can use the stock ****, Whalen **** or the B&M **** that it ships with. It's the same unit as the Promini unit. I had problem with the instructions... see this thread:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...90&start=0

But I assume that's resolved now. I love that short shifter. They replace the rubber mounts with solid bushings that really make the unit feel precise. Great short shifter. Check with Mark at Foriegn Affairs, he may match the Promini price.

I've got the Whalen too. I've also just installed the Rogue/Madness short shift adapter kit. Works just as advertised for $60 + shp

I love a good price war!
Casey's is a good unit as well. Made by the same company with some modification made to the top (it looks like) to make the stock **** fit on there better and a nice customized top with their logo in it.
These units are extremely well made from B&M and TUV approved to boot!
Give me call or give Casey a call (your choice) and let's make some happy Mini owners!

Minibeast - yup they are nearly the same - only difference being we have our custom engraved with ProMini instead of B&M - though mechanically if you have the updated version with the new lip then they are the same. As Minibeast said they are a GREAT product, B&M has been doing these for a long time and really put out a great product. Give one of us a call - either way you won't go wrong.

Rogue is an excellent short shift kit. Easy install, no interior disruptions (intalls from below the vehicle).

Performance wise, this short shift is unbelievable. No vibrations within the stick, smooth shifting.

...and at $60, it doesn't rape your wallet.

I had seen on some of the earlier short throw kits that the 'cover' was left off where the cable connects to the shifter. Is this still the case? I don't like the idea of having this exposed with the mag chloride they love to put on the roads here in the winter.

Webmtrn,

The lower clutch box cover does stay off. However, the heat shield is enormously large underneath the MC that there is NO possible way (any conditions, any speed, etc.) that water or your "Mag Chloride" would ever come close to harming the shifter at all.

Modern physics as you know it would have to be refined for that sort of damage to happen.

B&M (ProMini) do keep the stock dust cover in place.

I'll have to take a look at this heat shield because I didn't think there could be a dry spot under there after splashing through the mag and the slush on a Colorado winter day. It's no trailer queen and so I'm concerned about the stuff creeping into the cable jacket, bushings, etc... Fortunately, it sounds like there are some 'closed box cover' applications for the paranoid like myself but I'll take a look under there before I make my final decision.

Thanks for the info.

I have done all my research on all of the short shifters out there (Alta, Promini/B&M, Mini Mania, Rogue/Madness) but I have not seen quite what I am looking for yet. I am still unfamiliar with Casey's unit and have not seen pictures or design of it yet, so I am not judging that one prematurely. Monster Mini emailed me and said they were planning on making a shift kit for the minis. What I want to see is the Rogue Shift kit with the dust cover from the Mini Mania. I think the stock shift height is perfect and do not want to reduce it. Call me paranoid, but I am still not comfortable with not having that dust cover there. It is there for a reason. If anyone out there has installed the mania kit without the dust cover modification, I would gladly take the cover off your hands for a reasonable price. Please PM me or respond with any alternatives I may not be aware of.

I'd like one of these here shifters too, but I sure wouldn't want to go driving around the Chicago highways in the winter with nothing between my shifter's guts and the salt/grime than a goofy little heat shield. What you Floridians and Texans may not be aware of is the nearly gaseous state that the salt takes here when driven on in the winter. It coats EVERYTHING! For that reason, I think folks are right to worry about applications which remove the cover.

Now, are you guys saying that your short shifters do NOT leave the cover off like in the installs that I've seen written up? Do you guys have a how-to available?

The ProMini shift kit does keep the dust cover....This texan knows how the roads are up there as I recentely moved here from Minnesota where I lived for 24 years....Minnesota loves the salt on the roads.

The B&M Shifter that we carry leaves the Shifter Covered. It will be fine in the winter. I have it on my car, and here in NJ with the non stop rain lately, have had no problems. I have some in stock, so can ship soon.

Thanks

What everyone is saying about the B&M is true, it's excellent, but if you're looking for stock height....keep looking. The B&M kit shifter is at least an inch shorter. I think that's an great improvement, but to each his own.
