How would a mini sound with a glasspack? Not saying, I will do this.Just surprised I have heard anyone talk about it.Many classic cars ran these

I was actually wondering the same thing...

Also, here in Dallas, there is a guy in the local club that installed Hushpower by Flowmaster. He said it he really likes the sound although he hasn't posted a video clip yet. If anyone has any experience with these things, let us know. I'm really thinking of having a custom cat-back done but definitely don't want drone and also don't want the wife to think it's loud enough to be obnoxious.

Haven't done my Mini but I did mount a 30" Cherry Bomb inline under my GT PT Cruiser. Loved it! It had a nice deep tone and made the rear clean as no muffler was visible. Under load it would fart(best I can describe)when shifted but that sounded cool to me!

My friend did it on his Mini with a three inch exhaust. He said it was so loud that it made his teeth hurt. He said it was a nice fit to replace a rear muffler and resonator.

One of the first things I did after getting my Mini was cut off the stock muffler and installed a Cherry Bomb glasspack in it's place. I re-welded the stock hangers onto the shell of the Cherry Bomb and a new set of tips to the end. They are 3.5" and look great. The glass pack sounds so good I did nothing else to the system and it saved 8 lbs. of weight. I took pictures with a good digital camera, but can't post them because the file is too big. Just do it if you want, it's cheap and easy.

Just a question - why do it? It has minimal effect on performance if any. I purchased a car 30 years ago that had them. Got rid of them as fast as I could and and put in a factory dual exhaust sytem and proceeded to mod the engine and upgrade the carb sytem instead. What's noise without power? Just my opinion.

I think for me, the choice was to replace the muffler with a straight pipe because I despised the heavy stock muffler. A glass pack is like a straight pipe, no resistance/very light, but with some muffling (this is motorcycle tech). Do whatever you like because mods are easy on Mini's.

I see your point on the esthetic side, but at least for me I can't bend that low anymore to see the muffler clearly!

DOnt use a glass pack as a main means to quite a system down. An el-cheapo glass pack is used to filter the sound a tad, its not a huge difference.

For example, if you have a slight rasp, the glass pack will address it etc.

ya it'd be nice to get that pop & burble out of a 2nd gen.
I guess no-ones actually tried a glasspack on an R56, a straight pipe still wouldn't make your teeth hurt since the turbo & Cat's muffle a good deal right from the start.

when i did mine i left the resinator and cats. i just put in place of the stock muffler. when you look at my car you cant tell that anything has been done since i used the stock tips. i used a cheepy glasspack to get an idea as to how it would sound. if i did not like it i would not be out anything and with a second exaust goining back to stock is no big deal

my 07 mcs had a hell of a drone at 80mph with the custom 3'' catback and the boost tubes and the big air filter i had up front. the pops and burble are more to do with the tune the factory puts in. my 09 jcw is alot more quiet up front and the sound in the back is sweet.my comutes are long so if you are a around towner its probably not to bad. open it up .

Good move. Removing the second cat and leaving the muffler in would have yield you more HP and a lil more aggressive sound.
