One ball Mod disappointed

I just did the one ball mod and I feel like the car doesn't pull quite has hard. I kind of liked it that way it was. I have the resonator incase I want it reinstalled. What are your thoughts?? I can feel the difference in back pressure especially during down shifting.

Maybe it's just me

sounds like you have to let loose with some dough and just get a quality aftermarket exhaust

Unless I have done a before/after dyno or before/after 1/4 mile times, I don't put much faith in my own butt dyno. All too often, changes in the weather (high or low pressure, hot or cool temps) will make a change that you can feel more dramatically than a 2-3 hp mod.

I think you'd be even less satisfied spending $500+ on a "quality aftermarket exhaust" if you were hoping to feel much of a difference. Go for a pricey exhaust if you are looking for a particular sound, but not if you are looking for power difference that you can feel compared to the 1-ball. That same exhaust money would be better spent on a tune to match your mods...

On a final note, your car's computer isn't used to the less backpressure yet, and will be compensating for a little while. This may be why you are "feeling" a loss of hp... Typically, you can speed up that learning process by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes to reset everything, and then letting the computer go through it's regular cycles as you drive.

I doubt you have less power now... you were probably just expecting more.

I'm pleased with the One Ball mod. I felt a slight improvement in flow, and power, and handling.

I agree with the above... the 1-ball increased my mileage a bit, as for power.. the SOP didn't feel any different, the sound of the exhaust is better, however and that alone is worth the mod!! I have an electrical cut out in place of the removed muffler.. with the exhaust cut-out open.. the increase on the dyno was ONLY 3 HP more than the 1-ball mod!! I feel MOST of the aftermarket exhausts are more sound oriented than huge performance increases... yes??

Just me.............................

Thumper

PS: I dint run a dyno BEFORE I removed the 1 muffler... so I have no idea on the power gain with the mod...

Hard to be disappointed with a $40 mod. I don't know that I noticed much difference other then a bit louder.

You cut the Exaust up. Everything on Nam Suggusts that its really only gonna change the sound. Not a whole lot else.
Keep in mind its an easy fix To return to stock.
Other than that i would start looking into catbacks or full systems that are out there.
I know i have an engineered system that i love.
It makes the car.
Also. Anytime your making a car produce more power.
Expect to use more fuel.
Good Luck!

Disagree: sometimes power can be created by improving the system's efficiency (without sacrificing mpgs) -- for example, removing a 25-30 lb resonator which creates back pressure

Although my mpgs have gone down with the one-ball -- but that's because I like the sound and find myself reving the engine higher than before

I dont know so much about that.

The tune is about the only think i can think of that will add mpg.
I mean the pulley by default because the stock cars are pig rich.
I always thought that was kind of funny theres like a crap load of mpg in the software and they dident use it. I guess it has to do with emissions?
Lame.
I put the header on my car with the cam. that would make the engine more efficent but i can easly get my avg down around 19 or 20 around town.
Course i still get 40 mpg at 73mph.
Dunno
Happy modding.

Of course, you used a whole lot more gas to get to 73mph.
I noticed my "no load" gas consumption at 80mph on I40 was about 30mpg. I don't think I've ever seen higher than that, except instantaneously.

by itself you should not notice any difference, except for a little more sound. Not sure what influenced your expectations. None of the 1-ball threads layout noticeable gains.

In my experience, yes. But that's only because you're purposely staying in a certain gear at higher RPM than normal, just so you can hear the pitches change in the exhaust.

I've actually lost ~3mpg since I got the one-ball. But, again, I haven't driven the same since.

EXACTLY.

I don't know about anyone else but I really did it until I could get another exhaust. It was the best 75 bucks I have spent on my car so far. Great tone and it is always nice to shave 25 pounds off the car.

Sorry you are dissapointed.

^ +1 ^

Cost was $70.00US.

It took about 26 lbs of excess weight off the car, and must have added up to about 3 whp.

I am running the 1 Ball with Alta's 17% scp and V 2.0 Alta CAI. Additionally it seems to me that the sound it's generating is getting better with time as well......not sure why,

It didn't sound quite this good back when I first did the mod, now it sounds very much like the Alta's cat back on the U-Tube clips...Not a lot of drone on highway and has a very consistent burble.

Reminds me of the Ansa exhaust I had on my 1 Gen GTi...
