ALTA w/ Forge IC installed => Check Engine Light?

Recently i have installed the Alta: Boost and intake tubes, CAI, DP and exhaust for my R56 w/ Forge IC. After installed those parts, i have check engine light on n stated that the emission is too low. do u have any idea w/ that?

My dealer said there will be some problem on the catalytic converter on the Alta Downpipe, would it be?

it sounds like the problem I had. Was it P0420 Catalyst Below Efficiency Threshold? if so call Alta. There should be a fairly easy fix for that. I also had a lot of aftermarket bolt-ons on my car which made troubleshooting more challenging, but in the end, it was just the computer being very sensitive to the changes in exhaust flow the downpipe caused.

I've had my Alta turbo-back for a few days now and gotten the P0420 a couple of times. I'll call them too. Thanks.

Go to autozone or nearest auto parts store, thye have code readers that you can use to view and delete the engine light code. I wouldn't keep taking it to the dealer with cels if I were you.

deleting it doesnt save your problem, so theres no need to, unless its makign your car run in limp mode (1/2 power). Go to A-Z to get the code, then jot it down so you can reference it here for everyone else to help you and find out what the problem is. Also, people from alta may chime in for you as well.

yes i have the same code and i have talked to Alta... and it seems they are working out the solution within one month or so... i hope it can be faster...

the weird thing is i have it on 3~5 months after i installed the DP & cat-back but 3 days after i installed all the tube n IC

ALTA customer service is great i am very happy with this service...

I c

I've had the alta turboback on for more than 12k miles... No problems... Same thing with DDMWorks race intake and Alta turbo inlet hose... No problems... Put Alta's cold side boost tube on... No problems... Then hot side boost tube... Still no problems... I go to get car serviced for 30k mile check up, not 4 hours later check engine light comes on for "increased emissions"... Think it's the same engine light u guys have been getting???

My turbo back has never thrown a code. I would have to assume its something else maybe loose. Theres a lot of people who have similiar mods, heck many even with minus 1 cat.

its very likely the same problem. mine started six months after I started running the downpipe. But it could start at any time. The new MINI's are ultra-low emissions vehicles and the o2 sensors are extremely sensitive. As the High-Flow Cat starts losing efficiency (which is totally normal over time) it ends up tripping the sensor. Alta is getting a batch of o2 sensor spacers that reposition the sensor head outside of the airflow to 'desensitize' it a bit.

Inevitably this will be a typical problem with new cars. Another way it will be dealt with soon is through ECU software flashes disabling this error code. I talked to Mini-Madness yesterday and they represented that it can be done custom with their Evotech software flash.

There is no harm in clearing the codes or just ignoring it, but you should regularly read them to be sure it isn't something else.

Double-check for boost leaks, too.

A bad seal on the boost tubes or intercooler will throw a light, too.

Just a thought, though... as the header/downpipe seem to be a common denominator here, too.

From: Orlando, my house is in fortlauderdale and im originally from da bronx
I know some of you guys have testing in your state where they place a scan tool to check for pending codes. Just to play it safe i recommend you put yoru scan tool in and just do a general clear of the codes prior to giving them the car.

I recommend everyone who mods their car have some type of a scan tool. Just forgeting to hook up a sensor when you doing a mod will cause you to go into limp mode.

On my caliber in stock trim i was getting codes that would cause me to go into limp mode so i could only do 60. Imagine being on I95 800miles away from home and getting code that lets you do only 60? lol. Thank God i had my scan tool with me or i would still be in the brush doing 60 trying to get home. Not to many dealers open at 2am.

We are shipping out fixes that work on alot of peoples cars. But this is for a PO420 code. If you are getting emissions too low, that is a new one! I would love for you to verify this as this would be helpful to figure out your issue, and potentially others.

Why would there be a CEL for emissions too low! They should give you a high-five not a CEL for that
