Yes your wife and I were having a blast until smoke started pouring out from the cabin, lol. Yay, more issues to contend with..maybe it explains why I've been losing oil lately and not seeing where it's disappearing to.

Is Jan back from Texas yet? Is he? Is he?? Is he???

My wife went for a ride in a RMW cam'd & header'd Mini on Saturday (thanks OctaneGuy!) but I wasn't able to feel it first hand.

Since our cars are kind of twins of each other (different shades of blue... but all else the same...) this is exactly what I needed to hear!

No, I'm reluctant to make any posts about my issues because they aren't related to RMW mods, though some may try to make others think so. I've been having issues since the day I acquired the car, and they sort of went away for awhile. I pushed my car a little too hard considering that it hasn't been tuned a second time and that it's had a ton of major mods since it was last tuned--new pulley, header, cam, larger injectors. After that little scare....I decided it was the end of joy rides for the day, lol.

I have the cam (not installed) and the header on its way. I believe there will be a difference but will there really be THAT much of a difference? I mean I guess I'm trying to not disappoint myself and think its going to be great and it comes short....

If you've got the OEM header, then absolutely yes, you will feel and hear the difference. Despite the issues my car has, the additional power makes the car easier to drive. Not only does it roar when I step on the gas, but you feel the force pushing you back in your seat in higher gears than before. My mileage hasn't changed. I get 300 miles to the tank--most of my driving is in 6th gear and with the current mods, it feels like I'm in 4th.

OMG, it's just freaking awesome...

I'm gonna lose my license. It's inevitable.
Damn Paul, you're making it hard for me to wait until Wednesday!!! I have an appointment with Dan to get the combo installed on my JCW, can't wait

I know the cam alone didn't come close to the combo, I suspect the header might do a bit more without the cam, but it probably needs the cam to open up the head and make the header really shine...

And, yeah, I can't wait to get a re-tune to ensure that I'm getting ALL the goodness that can be had from this combo... but it's so freakin awesome already, I have no regrets about anything... Jan tuned my car a bit rich to allow for the cam... but I didn't plan to get the header then, and I think the header makes it a whole different ball game...

the cam/header is what really wakes up the car on the RMW tune

FWIW, I have the "special" cam tool here if anyone would like to borrow it... Just PM me if you'd like to borrow it, and I can ship it out. It holds the cam gear in place so that you can easily remove the bolt in the end...

Yeah - I watch Dan Zipkin use that tool when he did mine... I'm glad I didn't tackle the job myself without the right tools...

So is there a DIY article on how to swap out the camshaft, or is it just basic knowledge?

Pulled out my DINAN camshaft about 2 months ago, sold it to local guy here. Went back to Stage 5 and a re-tune. Found a Engineer friend who has been playing with the computer way to long and found his own version on tuning for MINI. We installed it about a month ago. Not drivin it enough yet to see what it does. Will post back when I have more time to drive.
