You don't pay for that option only once, and it takes finely honed skills to operate correctly.
And no, there is no manual on how to operate.

Depends on how she holds it.

Well, and depends on which "it" you're referring to.

Clint, sorry to hear of that trouble, but now you have a nice excuse for a stroker upgrade.

Also, do you have any likely suspects? 2%, old oil, low oil, wrong oil, etc. Is there anything to learn from this engine failure?

Back to cams....

Got my RMW cam installed yesterday by Dan at Grassroots Garage - going from stock to RMW. Really noticeable torque increase from about 3200 to 5500ish RPMs....the meaty part of the power band - I could feel it immediately. NO noticeable difference in idle, NO bad behavior, NOTHING "worse" than stock, or even different than stock, until the power comes one... then it's bliss.

I'll be doing some "after" Dynolicious runs this weekend to see if what my buttdyno tells me is reflected in times... I'll be surprised if it isn't... kinda glad my header was delayed a bit so I could feel and measure each piece separately.

But, at least for my car and my driving style, this seems (so far, 140 miles in) to be an all gain / no pain mod (other than the $$).

i'd agree 100%.....it must be doing something good. at the end of phillymini in the mountains (approx 50 mini's) many of my end of the group colleagues asked "what have you done to that thing?!" now i wait for helix to move and jan to come back and summon his magic.

I edited my original post - after spending another day with it - I can tell that the power comes on earlier than I first thought - probably around 3200RPM...

Bad Motor

Did losing the bottom end have to do with header and cam or what, im scared to do it now, i laready have consequences form lowering that damn cv jint vibration or whatever it is, still havnt been able to fix it. So is it rmw mod related?

I have the RMW cam & header and have had absolutely nothing go wrong other than upping the likelihood of my getting a ticket...

Got my header installed last week to go with my cam... OMG... Clint and Richard and others were not lying... it TRANSFORMS the car into a different beast.... my car pulls in forth now stronger than it pulled in third before. Much stronger. I cruise around at 3500-4000RPM in 4th, and can't make myself stop playing with the throttle... because the thing has INSTANT throttle response at that range and, at 4000 in 4th, hitting WOT will push you back in your seat, and keep you there until you pass 110mph...... OMG, it's just freaking awesome...

I'm gonna lose my license. It's inevitable.

congrats!

i believe you got your tune before the cam/header? if so, man are you in for more hp/rmw goodness!

it sounds like you found the header had more butt dyno gains than the cam? maybe i found my next mod (it was going to be snow tires). i planned on getting a tune without the header (i've already got the cam in).....but now you've got me thinking otherwise

Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes!!!
Is Jan back from Texas yet? Is he? Is he?? Is he???

My wife went for a ride in a RMW cam'd & header'd Mini on Saturday (thanks OctaneGuy!) but I wasn't able to feel it first hand.

Since our cars are kind of twins of each other (different shades of blue... but all else the same...) this is exactly what I needed to hear!

Other than the pulley, the header is IMHO the #1 bang-for-the-buck performance mod you can do to this car. It's not cheap, but it's a LOT cheaper than a head, and the impact is immense. I DO believe the cam+header work together to yield much of this impact... I know the cam alone didn't come close to the combo, I suspect the header might do a bit more without the cam, but it probably needs the cam to open up the head and make the header really shine...

And, yeah, I can't wait to get a re-tune to ensure that I'm getting ALL the goodness that can be had from this combo... but it's so freakin awesome already, I have no regrets about anything... Jan tuned my car a bit rich to allow for the cam... but I didn't plan to get the header then, and I think the header makes it a whole different ball game...
