Jan, several of us are in this same situation as Paul and will need to swap in the 440s when we get there. What are you talking about 'scale down the injectors so he can drive it' ?? He will not be installing those injectors until it is tune time, at which point he needs a tune and for them to be dialed-in, not scaled down ???

Jan BTW, before we get the 440s in and properly 'scaled down' should we be uber careful about high revs? Maybe always keep the revs below 6K, or 6.5K, etc. for fear of super lean with the 380s?

Is this a significant concern?

if you have 380s and stock tune you should be safe to 6k no problem

Thanks, that is what I thought I remembered from our previous talks but wasn't 100% sure and wanted the others to also know the limit. Better safe than sorry with a hole in a piston.

Actually, I have the canned MTH tune at present and since I believe it is leaner than stock, I might need to be a little extra careful.

Shouldn't take more'n a half hour to 45 minutes to swap injectors, should it? If that's the case, and I am gonna get tuned on Friday anyway, it seems I wouldn't really be going anywhere between the swap and the dyno. Perhaps it would be a good idea to have a pre-dyno inspection to catch any obvious issues before the cars gets strapped on the rollers. I'd be glad to volunteer my assistance while I'm hanging around Just thinking it's best to make the most efficient use of the valuable dyno/tuning time, ya know?

mdbsat,
Come on dude, find the $$, tune opportunities like this are rare, don't miss out. If you bail, you will live to regret that decision. Sell something on EBay, or better yet, get the GF to help. I am sure she wants you to be happy.

The market will come back, it always does....... see you at the tune

Yeh... if this event doesn't happen, I'll still drive to Texas, but stop in San Antonio and do something I'll later regret... I'm driving 1300 miles to get my car tuned--that's how rare an opportunity this is. This is a ten-bagger dood, a rare chance to experience something like Haley's comet. Ride out the market storm and spend an October weekend hanging with some interesting people (much more interesting than investment banker types, trust me.)

ARE YOU SERIOUS? I dont even know what to say..........
Yeah I really want to hang out with a guy that threatened to drive to san antonio and do something he regrets to me.
Wow.
I dont have the money anymore, dont know what to tell you. I hardly think I am bringing this whole thing down. You dont think I am upset too? Forget it. Unbelievable.

Sarcasm...a lost art.

mbstat...The market is killing us all right now. lots of uncertainty. But hey, as a US Taxpayer I now own part of an Insurance company. Wonder if I can get myself an insider deal on coverage.

I am fluent in sarcasm. This was just plain kicking someone while they are down. You dont think I want to be there? You think being scared to death about your finances is a good feeling. Mini-racers comment said the same thing without being a *****. Seriously.

Thanks guys.

Dr Phil was just applying some peer pressure, nothing more. And trying to jolt you back into something that is a pretty safe bet you will like.

The interesting people to hang out with are those like Jan and our event coordinator who is also the Alliance Editor-in-Chief, not mere mortals like ourselves.

Too bad you can't make it, not that it matters to you with what you have stated, but this is truly a rare event. And I am sure that just one dropping out will not kill the event, there is no place for guilt here.

There will be another event, and another chance for a tune.

So just think of it this way...........
Now you get to add a mod or 2 more to your car before the tune, and you will get even bigger gains. A likely next step for you would be a header or cam. I am partial to RMW stuff, but there are many options out there, especially for the header. For RMW, the prices are ~$850, and ~$400 for the header and cam respectively.

Amazing would be awesome, but I really only need better, and I am sure it will be much better after the custom tune.

Sorry to hear the market has you down. But what I have seen of the market, you might see it run back up to 15000 today. I hope you're not letting a bump in the 'down' direction take away an opportunity like this one coming. But we all have our own situations to deal with. I hope you make it through the bad financial weather okay, and sorry I won't get to meet you soon.

Well, I certainly sincerely apologize to you mdbsat for my comments. And I have no excuse, of course. I realize that spending money on your Mini is discretionary, as opposed to paying the mortgage and the monthly school fees.
I certainly don't include myself among the interesting people--I'm going there to meet Jan and Nathan as well as the others who I know less about, but hopefully who I will leave calling them my friends.
Yes, I'm a *****.
And I hope you get to Jan tune your car someday.

cheers,

Ok, let's change the subject and get back to my question.

When should I expect belt slip in terms of hole show?

A good question! I can only share my recent (this week) experience: I had just less than 1/2 hole showing on a 23000 mile belt (the original). I swapped it for the Jan recommended 535 belt and now I can now see the entire hole (note these holes are not circular, but elongated like an 0, not an O).
This suggests that my original belt *might* have been slipping, but I cannot see any change in boost (with my ScanGuageII) so maybe it was OK. I changed it because:
1. It's recommended for a dyno tune
2. What's happening at 6500 rpm is different than at 4000rpm
3. Swapping every 20k miles seems like good insurance.

and...the swap was easy!

Well, looks like Uncle Sam has stepped in to save the day, and the market is back to 11000. Still feeling badly? come on out and play! The market ain't going anywhere.

While the mkt may have rebounded some we don't know of the mdbsat issue and it really is none of our business. For all we know he/she may be employed by the likes of Lehman Bros and is wondering where the next paycheck is coming from.
