Phil
PS I presume that closer to the date, given it's a go, Nathan will collect some deposits (say $200 - $300) and keep them in escrow for the event.
We are darn close to filled. Between the local folks that are coming on Friday and the 4 listed in this thread we are at 8 of the 10 needed. Now 2 of the locals are special needs. One being an 09 R56 JCW that we are not sure if can be tuned yet due to software and the other is even more complex. If his PCA Club Racer is built by then he'll be off at Hallet for a PCA CR weekend leaving an open spot for Friday.
So as it stands now I'd like to see 2 more for Sat with 1-2 alternates and 1-2 alternates for Friday.
For deposits I'll be requesting a $250 check that I will hold onto until after the event. If the event doesn't happen I'll send back or destroy the check as directed.
poksy, where are you located?

So at what point do we expect to get some slippage? Anything less than a 1/2 hole, 1/4 hole, etc.? While I am sure this will vary from belt to belt, do we have a rule of thumb here?
I have just a sliver of a hole with my JCW belt and a 15% pulley and 14K miles. While I do plan to replace before the tune, just wondering how likely it is that I am already getting some slippage???
Thanks......

I'm planning on swapping out the plugs and belt tomorrow so they have some time to settle in before heading over to Dallas on the 17th....
See you on Saturday!
Hey guys,
I am new to all this. I think I would like to sign up for the Saturday slot. I just have some questions. You can read what I have done to my car so far in my sig. Will I benifit from a tune? How long does it last? Do I have to buy injectors? Sorry for all the questions...I am very new to all this. I wouldnt want to do any of the track stuff for fear of flying off the track! Thanks guys, let me know....if you think it would be good id love to sign up for the saturday slot.
Thanks in advance.

Ok, finalized things with the shop this morning.
We have Fri 1-6 and Sat 8-4
This gives 3-4 slots for Friday 5-6 slots for Sat assuming an avg of ~1.5 hours for each.
At this time there are 2 committed for Friday. I'd like to schedule at least one more and an alternate.
Saturday we have 6 and I wouldn't mind at all having 1-2 standby in case of a no show or we are faster than average.
I know most of Saturday's tunes are coming from out of town, who will be in town Friday night? We start at 8 and we do get started at 8.
The shop can do some basic work such as a pulley swap, belt change etc. They are not the least expensive shop in town but do great work. Labor Rate is $110/hr A pulley swap is 2.5hrs
I know the 3 Dallas area folks on the list below. For the rest I'd like a deposit of $250 please. It can be in the form of a check or PayPal. I will hold checks until the event and then deposit. PayPal needs to cover the fee's as well. PM me for my details and address. Let me know how you want to handle it.
We'll also need to start figuring time slots. Besides the thread here there is one on MM.org at http://www.metroplexmini.org/forum/s...d.php?p=384101 and on M|U at http://www.motoringunderground.com/f...ad.php?t=12341 I will keep them updated.
Checklist - PLEASE make sure these items are checked and are up to snuff before getting on the dyno. You will be responsible for the time from when you pull onto the lift till you pull off the lift. It is NOT a good idea to have work performed while on the dyno!! Besides the labor rate you will be paying for dyno time too!!
1. Over half the hole showing in the tensioner
2. New plugs , if running more than 15% use at least 1 range colder than OEM.
3. 91 octane gas Use good quality and make sure there is at least 1/2 tank (We have 93 at the pumps here in Dallas, for those out of state that normally run 91 it would be a good idea to mix 89 and 93 to reach an ~91)
4. Make sure your boots on intercooler are not worn/torn/old
5. Make sure you have no check engine lights
6. make sure your exhaust is NOT leaking
7. Clean air filter
8. Enough oil and coolant (fresh oil change is a good idea)
9.Non slipping clutch
10. Make sure the car is warmed up before getting on the Dyno (You don't want to pay for Dyno time to warm up the car)
11. DO NOT forget your lug key!!

All but the first slots off the day are approximate. PLEASE be ready before the scheduled time. I am leaving a fair bit of leeway between slots. Some cars may take only 1/2 hr to 45 min some may take 2hrs. Be mindful of the time on the dyno as well as they are broken into 15 min increments.
Also during the tune the only person to be working with Jan is the car owner. There is plenty of time while setting up/tearing down between cars to bug Jan.
We all work as a team when getting cars on and off. This makes things go much faster. You will be asked to help pull/place wheels and dyno hubs.

Thanks Nathan!!
I will be coming in late Friday, and with you help (location of dyno) I will find a hotel close by. I can be there before 8 for breakfast burritos and coffee (oh--we're not in New Mexico anymore...)
I did the belt exchange yesterday--easy (unless you have brake ducts which have to be removed to access the belt). I got a whole "hole" back on the tensioner but didn't notice any change in boost so the OEM belt was not bad enough to have been slipping noticeably.
Next up spark plugs, then oil and filter. Just gettin' ready.

Shop Name and Location would be a good idea.

If you want to have them do any work PLEASE call and have it scheduled. Ask for Rick, he knows MINI's he used to work for BMP/ProMINI. Make sure you mention that you are coming for the tune.
On another note if enough people are in on Friday night at the dinner hour I can set something up. Probably a BBQ at my house.
If someone needs a place to stay I can offer floor space. Jan has dibs on the couch. Fri and or Sat night is fine. Be warned now that I am headed to the track on Sun and will up and out before the sun rises.

There is a possibility I can show up Friday afternoon. I will need to swap injectors when I get down there, though. If it is more convenient for Jan and company for me to arrive during the day Friday, I will run it through the High Command to make it happen.
Hey Guys,
So at what point do we expect to get some slippage? Anything less than a 1/2 hole, 1/4 hole, etc.? While I am sure this will vary from belt to belt, do we have a rule of thumb here?

Depends on your driving style. Remember, on the dyno we are going to bring it to the base RPM and then NAIL it. This is where the slippage would show the most. Around town with moderate throttle openings does not push the belt as much.
My question is specific to the likely slipping point given a specific hole show. Definitely, you would not experience any slip with a light foot.
So, given the proper (i.e. most extreme) pedal application..... typically where does slip occur in terms of the amount of hole showing? What is the rule of thumb?
