They add these special naming to their mods that is nothing more than your normal bolt ons and call it their exclusive "upgrade" then they charge you an arm and a leg for it.

If you simply break down what those mods are that they do they are nothing out of the norm that any other vendor/mechanic would not be able to throw on for you and give you the same performance.

I know cause I have worked with them closely throughout the years.

So again, the point was pricing not the quality of product. I don't think anyone said they suck (at least I know I didn't) as in they have bad products.
Agreed - the same or better #s can be had for less $. I wonder if anyone ever bought Dinan or JCW stuff not realizing that. Interesting thought...

Save your money. Get
15-17% reduction pulley + shorter belt = $350 installed.
380 injectors = $ 400 installed.
One step colder spark plugs (4) = $ 40
cat-back exhaust = $500 installed
Air Intake = $150
RMW Tune + dyno time = $500.

Total = about $ 1600 and that is good for at least 195 whp or 220 chp. Some engines even gave higher numbers.

The RMW tune gave me: More HP & TQ, throttle response is better, revs stay a little longer when shifting gears, power delivery is better and comes at lower rev range.

Note: I used to have the Shark 93 software before but there is no comparison to RMW Tune. There are rumors that Dinan uses a modified Shark by Conforti.

Yes until I got the RMW tune which turned my car in another level of performance that included running better all around along with being safer because it wasn't borderline dangerously lean at 13.5 and higher.

I was lucky I didn't blow up my engine running that lean with their supposed industry leading tune.

That's a great summary, and costs included to boot. Awesome.

Research and development costs $$$, and from a buisness standpoint that must be passed down to the consumer which i understand. And they have a very elaborate R&D dept. Funny the people i know with E46 M3 DINAN cars have nothing but good to say as well. Dont know the exact extent of thier DINAN mods but they happy and i was impressed with the seattime i had in the E46. Im now seriously thinking of doing the DINAN suspension come this winter
Engine power is always sexy and fun, but suspension. Wow. I can tell you, I am in love with this suspension. I've said it before, but what is amazing is how DINAN worked with Koni front struts and rear shocks and Eibach Sport Springs to get a very comfortable and pleasant ride (and that wasn't even really a bottom line objective of mine, but it's definitely nice to have). And, not saying you have to go DINAN, but having come from H&R Coilovers in my e39 M5, this Mini Cooper S suspension is a pleasure in terms of not having my teeth jounced about all the time.

I also have the DINAN adjustable rear sway bar (19mm) and ALTA rear, sway bar end links and ALTA rear lower adj control arms.

Plus, riding on 18's, with TOYO tires and not punishing in the least bit.

If the people that haven't bought Dinan or JCW are upset (in theory), then the people that have bought it and realize it must be going crazy.

Hmm, that is good to know. Well, just a couple of more weeks before some of the Dinan stuff gets taken out. I wish I could get a RMW tune though.

For those keeping score, and I know you're out there, ;-) I had my TQ too high from a typo and fixed it and posted the dyno sheet in post 50.

Also here are the expenses of my mods:

M7 pulley $119
Belt $24.95
Helix CAI $199
Invidia $599
JCW 380cc $250 (used)
Jan Tune / dyno - not sure if that's fixed rate so I won't post it

Suffice to say it's well under $2K in go fast parts / tune to make nearly 200 hp and 180 tq.

Mind you, I can't turn a wrench so I've given some money to Dan at Grassroots Garage to install all this for me, your mileage may vary.

BTW, per my BMW buddies, Dinan is well respected and loved by some and not by others, same thing I heard in the Mustang community about Saleen--it's worth it, it's a rip off, they're fast, they're mainly cosmetic...I'll say again run what you have at an HPDE the first chance you get and it'll all be worth it.

Motor on, everybody!
