Hi Adam,

Thanks for responding. Unfortunately, I purchased the item over the phone (with Ken) and did not see the warranty admonition on your website, nor was I informed of any abnormal limitations at the time of purchase. In fact, I had no idea that this was different from any other of your products until I learned that it was actually produced by UniChip here. Since others produce most of the products that you assemble or market and label, does the same seven day limit apply to all of your products?

As you know, the bulk of my concern is not only about the expense involved in returning the product repeatedly and growing time spent without it, but also about wear and damage to the vehicle's ECU caused by the need to repeatedly install and uninstall it. I have shipped the harness along with the ECU to you as we had a prior arrangement regarding reprogramming the ECU. Perhaps you would be so kind as to contact UniChip on behalf of all of your customers here and hopefully bring some clarity to the situation as-well-as give me some idea of where I stand with getting back up and running.

Thanks,

Richard

We do offer refunds on our products and services when applicable. Again this is OUR products, like ALTA Intakes, exhaust, downpipes etc. The UniChip is a product from UniChip not from ALTA. ALTA produces mapping to enhance the power gains from the UniChip when combined with ALTA products. So if you paid for an addl. map or something beyond the purchase price of the UniChip we can gladly handle that credit back if the map doesn't meet your needs.

BUT, the hardware in this case the UniChip is warranted by UniChip not ALTA. It is described on our website as such. They handle the warranty on that item. If the UniChip was purchased from us and then returned within our return period (or alert) within 7 days of receipt we can GLADLY make a refund. But the item is out of that return period and now in the UniChip warranty period and needs to be handled at that level.

ALTA staff will continue to help UniChip clients that have concerns as a liaison, but can't do the actual warranty in house.

I hope that helps clarify. Thanks again for your purchase and the post here!

Thanks for the comments back! Is helpful! The terms and conditions are included with each packing slip as well. So that way clients can stay informed.

The only items this would be similar to would be the m7, GoMINIGo, Konig, H&R, Privat, UniChip, Black Wow, etc.

ALL of the ALTA brand products are either made in house, or under contract locally. ALL ALTA products have between a one year to lifetime warranty depending on the product. WE produce our own products.

Christina in my office is working with clients having problems with UniChip harnesses. But they do balk at refunds. So it puts you and I in a pickle. I hope that enough affected clients will e-mail UniChip directly (feel free to cc me as well!) and that will invoke a change in their policy. If they understood how it is irritating and affecting clients like yourself I believe it will change.

Hope that helps clarify to you and others. Chat soon!

Again, I thought I bought an Alta ECU, not a UniChip ECU and that it was packaged as such. I'm not certain what came with it, so it is possible that there was a warranty sheet included. I do remember contacting Ken since the included installation instructions were for an R53, not an R65.

Please keep us up to date as to how things go with UniChip. Are you still planning to carry their product in the future?

After my PnP was sent to Uni-Chip (via Alta), I did receive a call and one or two emails from Michael O'Higgins early this month. Since then, I've heard nothing, including when I might see a replacement. Good thing I'm keeping my R56 for a long time, because it doesn't seem like anything is progressing with the PnP issues in the short term.

Wow, I feel for you guys. It's frustrating at best. I understand Adam's position since his company is not actually producing the product BUT his company is selling it. If there is a problem, I would think Alta would try to use a little leverage with Unichip to satisfy their customers. Unichip's inability to produce a reliable product (whether it be the tune or harness) makes Alta look bad as well.

I know new things are coming around the corner but these exact problems are the reason I went with the JCW stage I kit.... may not be as much power but the reliability issues don't leave me worrying if I'm going to have an issue today.

Good luck to you guys with the Unichip, I hope if the harness is the issue, that they come up with a solution to make all that HP/TQ worthwhile.

Mark

It seems like both Alta and UniChip are a little more tuned in to this problem now. Why not give Michael a call on Monday?

Just sent him a follow-up email this afternoon. We'll see if he's got any news.

He's not always attentive to email. I had better luck with the telephone.

Just an FYI guys. I haven't been cc'd on ANY e-mail regarding UniChip issues since I posted that. My tech guys have handled a few clients concerns and got them new harnesses through UniChip, but even though I asked to be cc'd to stay on top, I haven't been. I want to help in everyway I can, but if people don't keep me in the loop how can I?

If there are any remaining issues, PLEASE e-mail me and stephen.douglas@perrinperformance.com

Thank you!

Hi Adam,

I got a hold of Michael via email, and it looks like Christina has been CC'd on the last couple of exchanges. Michael is currently mapping my ECU, which I didn't know he would need to do. Will it have Unichip's mapping, or Alta's (I asked Michael this today as well)?

Would have UNA map not ALTA in that case. I am GLAD though that they are taking care of you though! (If you want the ALTA mapping back, send us the ECU!)

I was just pointing out that my invitation was to keep me in the loop. But I am 100% happy that your are keeping our staff in the loop.

Thanks again!

Sorry, Adam, I'm definitely a layperson...what is UNA? What would be the difference? Definite advantage of one over the other? If there's a plus to getting the Alta map, then I'll be sending that baby your way, for sure.

UNICHIP North America.

They have their own mapping, it makes less HP vs. the ALTA as it is more conservative.

You can run either map. Choice is yours!
