Any results yet? How did everyone else do?

The weather was kind of hot (84) and humid (44%) and the dyno, according to Jan, was reading really low. I started out with a base of 164 hp and 156 lb tq, when I had my car dynoed a few weeks ago it came in at 175 hp. The car was running REALLY lean starting off at 16+ and going down to 11-12 as the RPMs came up.

When Jan was done the car was making 180 hp and 160+ lb tq, Jan was saying that on a better day and with a dyno that reads normal the car will be right around 205 hp. I just have a paper print out right now so I'll see if I can scan it and load it up. Before the tune the car felt like it had no ***** in the lower RPMs and now it feels a lot better.

Thanks Jan.

Marshall

What injectors were you running, and did jan solve this?

Ya, he was able to add more fuel in the lower RPMs and smooth things out. Before, the tp curve was very wavey but after more fuel was added it turned into a very nice smooth curve. Ill hopfully get a scan of the run up in the next few days.

I'm also running JCW 380's.

I was the last car to be tuned on Friday. I baselined at 174.2 hp and 167.06 ft-lbs of torque. I finished at 177.4 hp and 169.49 ft-lbs.

I, too, was really lean at low rpm, 15:1! Jan asked whether I was feeling weekness when driving in that range, and I said yes. I had never felt comfortable at blind stops. Well, Jan fixed that! My low end is so much better now. I have gained about 20 ft-lbs at 3000 rpm, and 10-20 ft-lbs from 2250-3600 rpm. In the end, I saw increases throughout the entire power and torque bands. I have 160+ ft-lbs from 3000-5300 rpm!

I have a new car now! I could tell the difference even in reverse!

Jan is the man!

Wow! Quite an amazing delta for me as well. I ended up with a gain of 5-7 hp and 5 lb/ft of torque across the whole range. I ended up at 177.2hp at 6800rpm and 164.8 lb/ft of torque at 3800 rpm. You can totally notice the difference.

Wilhelm, thank you for organizing all this!

Jan, thank you for coming!

I got tuned on sat i started off with a base of 171.9 and finished with 185.8 again the dyno was reading low and jan said that i should be hovering around 200 at the wheels but the real story of the tune was the torque curve i gained 3-7 lbf ft throught out the entire rpm range (base 167.6, final 171.8) Not bad for a guy that changes random numbers randomly

So where are all the numbers. This has to be quietist tune ever. What about ingsoc? Were the numbers that bad with the dyno. Something doesn't seem right.

A full tune on my car didn't happen. I'm chasing an abnormal sound so we didn't run the car to redline. Jan thinks it may be the mechanical tensioner on the timing chain, so he wants it checked out by Helix before really testing the car. He really does care about me and my car...he insisted on not taking any chances. The man is a scholar and a gentleman .

As far as numbers go, apparently the dyno was reading at least 10% lower than most Dynapacks that Jan has seen. With a rough tune, my car peaked like 198 ftlbs and made 210whp at 5900 rpm. Apparently, I made nearly 20 ftlbs more than any other car on that dyno, including one with a head and all kinds of goodies. I had 10 ft lbs more torque at 5900 rpm than any other car did at peak. If we had run it to 7000, it would easily have been past 230whp. Again, the dyno was reading significantly low, so I'm making likely at least 260whp.

We'll chase this possible issue with my car and then he's gonna have another go at it in Philly at the next Helix tuning session. Patience everyone .

I think that most people were a little surprised by the DynaPak's low readout. I was not so surprised, because I baselined a few months ago on the same machine, before I even installed my pulley. I pulled 142.5 hp and ~136 ft*lbs, which is little low. Consequently, I knew to focus more on the deltas from my tune. Those, my friends, have kept me happy for the past 3 days!

First off Jan is king and has made my car run so much smoother with much more usable power, the tune was a little disappointing with the numbers being low but all in all everything was ok because in the end I got the tune! I started off at 158 torque and 172hp with my giac-tune and at the end of the jan-tune finished off at 162 torque and 180hp. Jan thought my car ran pretty strong for a 2003 and thought I might be close to 200whp on a better dyno. Overall this was a great improvement in regular driving! Unfortunately, as many of you know Jan did not have his cam's in stock for a couple of weeks which was on my list of to do's before this tune. So hopefully I can get his cam for when he comes to Helix! Thanks Jan, awesome work!
Also just to let everyone know I drove up from Pennsylvania and averaged 35.1mpg on the way up and on the way back!

having dyno'd on more dynapacks around the country than most, Bill's dyno was by far the lowest reading dynapack anywhere

I am working with Bill to get some files to Dynapack so they can look at the differences between other dynapacks. Thanks for the hospitality shown and having a great time in the Boston area. Looking forward to coming back again in the near future.

A big thanks to Hans and Bill for doing a bang up job organising the event and "gittin it done"
