Or does anybody have more picture or pricing info? I was leaning towards the NRP, but this one fits my criteria as well (2.5", dual straight-thru mufflers in series, no branches)

They should ship 'next week', priced at $797.95 (neck to neck with the Quicksilver). It weighs in at 34 lbs and has a single muffler and in-lin resonator and dual polished round tips. That's all I know, I have a couple coming in as soon as they're ready to ship.

i would not say that is Alta's intention, it is the price that I was quoted and they seem quite happy to sell to individuals which always makes me happy  who knows perhaps I was misquoted. worth a phone call.....

Just for the record (I know nobody asked). I really like the looks of the system. Nice simple design...

I wish there were more pictures, though!

The system looks to be nice from the one pic...but I have a problem.

[rant]
Aftermarket exhausts are obscenely expensive, especially compared to other sport-compact markets. $800 for a $100MAX muffler and some tubing? Sorry to rant, but the markup is just sickening here; it's like high-end audio cabling!

i agree. corvettes and nsx's exhaust can cost 800-2000 and thats warranted

but my integra HKS exhaust from japan only cost 450 and most sport compacts are like that. but i think the aftermarket companies are just taking advantage of the hunger to modify minis. its the capitalist systtem we live in

I definitely agree with the rant, but as was mentioned in response to said rant, this is a capitalist society, and companies sell their products based on what the market will bear. As long as people keep willingly paying the inflated prices, companies will keep them at that level. If there were no interest in a $700 exhaust, then the price would surely drop.

I tried to start a boycott a few weeks back on the MOSS center console organizer priced at $50. It is an absolutely outrageous price for something that is mass produced plastic (well designed, though it is). I got a couple of decent responses, but after that it fizzled out. I've since seen group buys for these organizers for $44 (shipped) apiece, which is still ridiculous. I think anything over about $25 should be considered outright gouging...

The real "problem" is that a lot of the people who own these cars have a bit of money to burn, so a $700 exhaust doesn't bother them. I read every day on MCO about people's new wheels and tires that they're spending a month of my salary on. I'm really going to have to pinch pennies just to get new tires next spring...

Oh well. Until people wake up and smell the $$$, we're all stuck with high prices, at least until PILO comes out with an exhaust system and a center console organizer!!! <<nudge nudge>>

Yikes, I think Adam was misquoted, unless things have drastically changed in the last couple days. Our most recent pricing schedule from them says the system is to run at $799. They're very protective of their pricing and strongly discourage (to the point of not selling to them anymore) any heavy, consistant discounting by their dealers. That's what we have on our site ($799)....I would love to see the system come in at $675 like has been quoted here. I too agree in the severely overpriced MINI stuff that is on the market, but it is justified in recouping development time and costs associated with product development. Hopefully it will come down slowly as the part cost goes down as production numbers go up. It's a direct relationship.

We're just at the beginning of a whole new platform, new everything, there's vertually nothing on the MINI that can be 'borrowed' from another vehicle. The VW and Honda stuff is virtually all the same product from car to car, so costs are pretty low on that stuff (i.E. Sway bars, stress bars, flywheels, brakes, etc. etc.)

So back to the systems, we have a couple coming in soon and will get better images as soon as we can.

Everyone also has to keep in mind that there are alot more civic's and integra's running around than there are MINI's, so the their market is much smaller. Do what I do and be patient for the Group Buy to roll in.

I agree with the fact that there aren't many Minis yet and a lot of engineering time is going into new parts for them. My other car is a Porsche 914/6 and compared to it Mini parts are cheap! A stainless exhaust for it is 2500.00 plus another 800.00 for the muffler. Needless to say neither car is getting a new exhaust right now, but I bet the Mini gets hers long before the Porsche. I also need a new clutch on the 914, the parts alone are over 500.00 for that, ouch! Mini's don't seem nearly so bad after looking at my Porsche catalogs.

sorry to hijack the thread guys, but you all have great points about aftermarket pricing, and I really appreciate it. Curt, I know the feeling of relative cost, I used to have a 3-series, so I know a bit about crazy prices

I would love to see more pics, dyno pulls, and specifications for the ALTA exhaust, as I've been very impressed with the quality of everything I've seen from them so far.

Cheers,
Ryan

I want to know that these exhausts give when added to a pulley, chip and intake.

Next week...

I can only dyno so many systems at a time! We've had a run lately of exhaust testing. We have tested the Milltek, are testing the UUC currently, and will test the Alta Wednesday of next week. The price is definitley $699, and it is not the NRP system nor is it built by NRP.

Hope that helps!

13 to 15 more HP!!! see below-
From http://outmotoring.com/alta_sportone...s_exhaust.html
This item is supposed to ship the first week in September. It will be INACTIVE until we actually see one and get a chance to test it out, thanks!!

The Alta SPORTONE exhaust system sounds, looks performs the way the factory system should have. Exhaust note is pleasant and lively at idle while giving a sporty, throaty growl under hard acceleration. All of this without annoying resonances at high idle or while cruising the interstate!

The ALTA Performance exhaust system combines a show quality exhaust with a high horse power tuner system. The larger diameter tubing (at least .25” larger than competitive systems) is perfect match to the high revving, supercharged power plant in the Cooper S. The system is a real power builder on Cooper S’ equipped with the Alta S/C pulley, intake system and other engine modifications. Stock cars should expect 10-12HP at the wheels. Vehicles more heavily modified should see gains between 13-15 HP.
------------------------------
Although the picture looks similar to the NRP exhaust-Randy says it is not the same- Great!

I realize one of the vendors stated the above, yes I did read that already. HOWEVER, I'd like someone to dyno it and I'd like to see the dynos in case I wasn't clear. Like the quote from the website says - "until we actually see one and get a chance to test it out," - obviously - THEY HAVE NOT TESTED IT YET!!!!!!
