I moved on to better things.

MM had offered to reload the EvoTech tuning for me. I elected to pass and stay with my RMW tune... And on that topic, the RMW tune is super reliable on the track. Have been to 5 track days since my RMW tune... not a single issue contrary to some bashers claiming RMW tune trade off reliability for power. All my track days are with a local racing school, so each session are minimal of 30min. During each track day I get 130~160 miles on track, in most days I skip the last session as I'm pooped.

Here is video from my track day on 8/26.

Make sure you watch it in HQ and turn on the annotation. To turn on the annotation, click on the up arrow looking icon on the right side of playback control, then click on the popup icon.

I'm actually looking forward to the off season in 6 weeks so we can build up the MINI with more RMW goodness to give it that extra boost in speed and acceleration. I don't expect to keep up with the 400+hp 997 Turbo, just need enough power so I don't lose so much time on the straight. Because I really enjoy getting the point by from Porsche drivers, its a white flag to MINI's handling prowess and driver skills. Every single instructor I had always says "doesn't take a lot of skills to go fast on the straight...".

No refund was ever received. I was offered to reflash of my ECU with another Evotech tune, which I have declined. Some vendor talks big, but don't back it up when real honest questions are asked. Just look at that R56 EVOtech tune thread, the vendor never responded after a string of questions was posted. And the vendor never called BoomerMCS as he claimed will be doing to answer BoomerMCS's questions directly.

Ok, I gotta ask, what software/video/hardware combo are you using? That video looked great. Any resolutions for the RPM?

I find this to be true of most all vendors actually. If you don't get an answer, well, that says a lot doesn't it? Nobody is doing closed loop tuning as you can't do it on a dyno (the car is hot....derr). Start fooling with too many subsystems like bigger injectors and such and your idle goes to pot and the car runs like poop until it's warmed up (seemingly more common than you'd think, though nobody likes to talk about it especially the vendor. if you discuss it, the vendor won't retune you - Catch22). Heck, it's an issue even on some cars with stock injectors but tuned.

there are even cars here that are bone stock that have idling issues....
guess the factory doesn't have it figured out either

regardless there are fixes are the way to control bigger injectors at idle

correct, the factory didn't have it right either (both our R53's occasionally stumbled on idle when stock after a big temp swing in the weather overnight), BUT! when the issue crops up after mods and a tune, it would be nice to have an open dialogue about it. Random issues when stock are better than an issue EVERY time you start your car when modded. Call me crazy.

Pure13: Wow, after all that nonsense, still no refund? Well I'm not to sure I can spend my hard earned cash into an EVOTECH anytime soon. Here I thought finally R56 gets tune. I'll wait for the Jan. Obviously, Jan you have built a reputation for quality and putting smiles on peoples faces. I'll wait it out, it's getting cold here anyways.

I have noticed the answers of some questions were unanswered or almost skipped over. Who knows if they spoke in person or not, however, those are the kind of questions I think everyone looking to drop 2,000.00 needs to see. Just my opinion.

I'm new to the ECU world. If I ever make a mistake when describing something, please don't jump on me! I'm just a noob.

Any ETA Jan? Not trying to be pushy, but just wondering. Thanks!!

Awesome! There's no pricing even being thrown around yet, is there? if not, are you too expecting the same as the Evo for the R56? Thanks for the prompt reply.

its going to be more than the R53s due to the fact that we have to open the ECU up and hook directly into the eprom

PGT, on the idling issue, I've been complaining about this for years. It's not just the tunes. My car had the JCW kit installed at the dealer before I took delivery. Since the day i took it home, it has had hot idling issues. It will idle fine for 10-30 seconds and then acts like it drops a cylinder. I have actually datalogged the timing/throttle position and AFR's and it appears to be issues with sensor/ECU input, but I can't say definitively. Anyway, my car was back to the dealer numerous times for reflashes and their last word on it was "Oh well, they(BMW) may never get it right" After numerous power mods including injectors, the problem happens with about the same frequency. Changes with the weather(90F+) and the oxygenated gas in Cali seem to have the biggest effect. I've come to find out over the years that there are many revisions of ECU's and then multiple update flashes from the dealer that are build date and mod specific. I think the MINI ECU and sensor system has some inherent flaws that might never be completely sorted.
It's unfortunate that you have had issues with your car, but it seems some ECU's adapt differently than others, maybe you got a bad egg or still have sensor issues.

First off....let's not confuse the stock idle issues with that after a tune (different animals or, if somehow related, the tune exacerbates the issue which is still, well, an issue).

that would be an easy fix to swap out every sensor but since I'm not alone in having rough idle post tune, I wasn't about to start swapping out parts again (been down that road replacing things damaged by the initial bad fitment of header/mid) without definitive proof it was NOT the tune. Others have had the issue as well with a different parts mix so the tune is the common thing here. There's been a climate of 'let's not talk about it publicly' which boggles my mind.

the nature of the rough idle post tune is quite different from the normal BMW/MINI craptastic factory load. We went from sporadic to every time I drive....not acceptable if I'm being honest. The O2 is a heated sensor....the rough idle post tune seems to be from wonky data and how the ECU interprets it in closed cycle mode compared to the coolant temps. So, even after running the car and sitting for 15 minutes, it's still got the issue when starting again. Frankly, it's above my pay grade and why I paid someone else to handle it instead of downloading ECUExplorer and buying a Tactrix cable and DIY tuning (provided one could on a Siemens ECU....probably not).

All academic at this point....my car is now back to stock and being sold. 10 months of chasing (avoidable) issues with no end in sight was enough for me.

Traqmate data acquisition system + Sony HDD camcorder + TraqStudio integration SW. I was at a BMW HPDE yesterday, will post video this weekend. Have both RPM and Gear inputs. RPM is tapped from pin9 of OBD2 plug.

sure. first of all, not here. second of all, not you (unless you decide you want to finally post dyno charts that is...). third of all - it's 'enlighten'.
