Evotech Tune from Mini Madness

I had Evotech Stage3 software installed as part of Madness Stage 3 Power Package. Today I had an opportunity to finally dyno the car to see if it is anywhere close to the 230hp advertised by Madness, and take a look at the Evotech Stage3 Software. The car pulled only 188whp. However the big shocker was the Evotech "tune" or lack off.

It turns out my fuel mapping was bone stock and the only things are was "tuned" were raised rev limit to 7300 and raised limited on DSC. No fuel map tuning what so ever. $645 for a raise in rev limiter and DSC...WTF.

I know couple of EvoTech tuned cars had horrible dyno numbers and "pig rich" A/F ratios at PSMINI dyno day at CarbConnection. So I might not be the only one that had an Evotech "none tune".

Please share your expereince with me either on this forum or PM.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Did you call George at Mini Madness before posting this? Maybe it was just the wrong flash.

To be very clear, at this time I just want to get fact from other folks with Evotech tunes. Especially couple folks up in Seattle area that had Evotech tunes with horrible dyno results at PSMINI dyno day last month. I'll contact George of Madness when I've all my facts.

FYI: I had RWM tune today , so its not like I want reflash Evotech on my car . I want accountability for the stuff people are marketing and selling, I don't think that is too much to ask.

So be it.

I've been in product development business all my career and even dabble in my own performance part biz before. Professional accountability is something I live by everyday. If companies are going to charge $$$ for stuff, it better deliver. This just basic principle.

188.8 whp (Evotech supposedly Stage 3 tune, but the ECU record shown no tune at all for fuel map, just changes to rev limiter and DSC)

203.7 whp (RMW)

It sounds that way to me.

Also why wasn't there a call to Madness to George he may have given you a clue to the problem. You seem pretty fast to condemn Mini Madness. For someone claiming to have experience in performance parts you know that shi.. happens sometimes but can be corrected. If there was one.
This whole thread sounds fishy

I've not condemned Madness for anything. I only state the fact that I got Evotech installed at Madness. And the Evotech tune I had, had no tune for fuel map.

No.. Sh*t didn't happen with my performance part biz...Sh*t happens is an excuse for people that don't give a Sh*t.

If you read the last of my post what I said was "you know that shi.. happens sometimes but can be corrected"

I will call George tomorrow and get the real story

To clarify things here, what Pure 13 is talking about was a dyno day we had back at the first of May. http://www.psmini.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3815

We will know more but the numbers that are starting to come in from the RMW run are showing the base line numbers to be off from the dyno that was used for dyno day. But as Pure 13 states no tune just rev limits changed.

George and MM work a lot with our club and George has the dyno run sheets(copys) and is concerned. I believe the concern here is directed toward Evotech not MM.

You can follow the Jan tune this weekend here. http://www.psmini.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3815

Mini Madness is just an Evotech dealer. Should they be responsible for the results of the tune? Maybe Evotech should be? I've heard great things about the Evotech tune and twice as many 'neutral' things. Congrats on the RMW tune, enjoy your car and newfound HP, and move on!

I think your spot on. Unfortunately buyers today need to do double due diligence to understand what they are getting.

Here is a great example - I needed a cheap Audio/video receiver to upgrade my home theater. Sony has a new 200 receiver w/ 3 HDMI ports. For those that don't know Hdmi ports allow for a single cable to transport video and audio. I hook it all up just to find out that this bottom of the line unit doesn't transport the sound via HDMI so I would need other cables. The whole point to HDMI is a single cable. So they advertise 3 HDMI ports yet they are not TRUE HDMI.

back on track

While opting for a Jan tune is/was the right end solution, since he is the most dedicated to tuning MCS; he is also is an accountable type guy. Just tell me that you are getting your money back for the Evotech.

I agree with Yaki - talk to the vendor first, then gripe if they don't fix it.

George is a stand-up guy, and I guarantee that if there was a screw-up, he'll make it right.

To be fair though what dyno did you use before jan? A dynojet? That reads a lil higher than a dynapack which is jans weapon of choice when it comes to tuning... I believe u still gained some hp but those numbers are a lil inflated due to differences in dyno machines... I dynod on a dyno dynamics yesterday and got 168.5 whp and am happy about it because i know its by far the lowest reading dyno out there, and today was hot as satan. hopefully i fix my leaky injector, get jans tune and cam or header and break 180 on my dyno machine!

those 188 numbers were ON the Dynapack....

I don't know why people are beating up on Pure13 he is just reporting the facts. Also, I don't think George mapped his car.... people would be better served asking Evotech why they only changed the rev limit and traction control.

for the record this is NOT THE ONLY EVOtech car I have retuned. The others had the same tune on it.

everyone is always so quick to shoot the messenger around here

regardless of what dyno was used....it doesn't matter! The problem here is not the low hp number its that Evotech is getting 650 for this thing and no "tune" has been done. The whole reason why someone buys ECU software is for the simple fact that the maps have been "retuned". After all they say it in the description of their product. When all they are doing is increasing the redline that is hardly a "tune". Oh well at least we have Jan to get a real tune done to our cars.

I agree. But this situation sounds like it could have been an honest mistake. Yeah, its a pain and we do pay money for these products, but we are human!

Fishy indeed. I think this thread should be moved to the classified ad section. LOL

Classified ad for what? The original post made no mention of anything other than Evotech results.

Facts are facts. I'd be pissed too if I spent $645 for nothing...

I guess everyone else missed the part where Jan said "I've tuned other Evotech cars with the same tune". Doesn't sound fishy at all, and doesn't sound like an isolated incident.

Why everyone's condemning someone for griping about wasting money I don't know. He's already contacted the vendor, and it doesn't sound like he's mad at them, just at the whole situation.

I'd be pretty pissed if I spent 500-600 on a "Tune" and got nothing too, regardless of who's fault it was.

For the record I had their stage 4 system on my first MINI. I'm skeptical of the dyno that was run, mainly because my current car isn't far off and feels a LOT faster.

The dyno link on Madness's website (Link 2) is a link to the dyno of my car. To date I still don't know why they posted that up there without my permission, but whatever...
