Drivetrain Installed Quiksilver Exhaust on MCS
Hi everybody, I just finished installing the cat back Quicksilver exhaust with the help of my cousin. It was our first time ever working with an exhaust of a car. I had gotten this months ago from a group buy, but holded it off because I got the Pulley and wanted to note all the changes it made for the car. From start to finish, it took an hour and 20 minutes, it wasn't bad at all. I had read Randy's excellent how-to, and then just go to work, very straightforward job. The piping and tip fit nearly perfect, it only required little adjustment. I recommend you have the help of another set of hands because putting the new exhaust on by myself would've been a gigantic pain. There was something about hte tip we noticed after the test drive, it sticks out noticeably after it has been heated. I remember this happened to others as well so I expected it too, but it does stick out a bit too much. When it is cool to warm though, it looks perfect so I don't really mind.
Turning the car on for the first time, at idle, the car sounds very mellow, at a volume similar to stock. Revving it to 3k-4k and letting go releases a few clear burbles, the way the stock exhaust does, but louder and just sharper. Simply backing out the garage at the start, you can feel a difference in how the engine is responding. Not even a quarter mile through, shifting at low rpms (warming it up) and listening for anything out of the ordinary, the car was giving me a blast, I was already sold because of how much it freed up the engine. Having a Pilo intake and 15% Pulley, the engine felt like it was restricted and the high backpressure was not allowing things to flow freely, making the engine less smooth and it had a certain pulsation. Now, the engine feels much freer, the way it was supposed to be, double clutching has become much more exact and not even an issue. The difference is power is clear and it's comparable to what the intake did for me.
Now for the volume which concerns most including me, the system does not drone inside, I have not lost any hearing due to any loudness. To say the sound is "bearable" is somewhat of an insult because the sound itself is very refined and predictable. It's something I can go around the streets with late at night and not wake people up, just what I wanted. The difference in tone and volume is particularly different in the low to low-mid range (2k-4000 rpm), it is a lot deeper. Exactly at 2000rpm's, the sound is deep and loud, but only if you hold it at 2k rpm's. In the mid-range, the sound is very nice and volume is quite low, it is a nice mix between hearing both the SC whine from the bonnet and the exhaust from the rear going WOT. The top end seems to have gained the most acceleration naturally from what I noticed today, and the exhaust sounds very sick. It has a beast-like hissing sound to it. Me and my cousin just looked at each other when we were going all out, haha, we are impressed.
Anyway, hope this was helpful for anybody looking to buy the quicksilver, I am very happy with my purchase. It is generally known to be one of hte lightest exhausts, in between the Borla (non race) and Magnaflow as far as volume and wildness. I have heard both those systems, and the Borla is quite tame, too tame for me while the Magnaflow is just ***** out sporty which I love but I wanted my car to stay more discreet, so QS works for me. Thank you again Randy for your help and btw, Randy Webb Motorsports would sound friggin' perfect.
