Jan what are your thoughts on the Dinan intake?

I want a JCW but i really don't want to wire it up ect... and performing a flapectomy and not worring about the wiring seems link kind of a waste for the cost.

any input?

I like the "factory" style ones best, they shield much better from the heat

Is that cabrio running pure stock JCW intake (or did it have the flap removed)?

(just curious -- I realize this is an inconsequential detail in light of the bigger issues addressed in this thread. . . thanks)

I agree which is why I'm running the Voltage intake. The cover is the same size and shape as stock but uses a real velocity stack and a great filter. It maintains the stock front fresh air tube and is open in the back (cold air from cowl) and is made from hand laid fiberglass. Simple and as close to stock as they come.

the Dinan is nice and a good alternative to the JCW but the filter is pricey. Perhaps the Dinan box + an Amsoil filter = a good alternative to the JCW. That S2 uses a standard UNI filter which is easy to clean

+1

Dinan box (not filter) is functionally equivalent to JCW without the flap - same type of material & sealing, etc. A cheaper way to get something that works just like the JCW w/flapectomy. I started with a Dinan, but went to JCW (w/AMSoil) for low-rpm throttle noise abatement. Love the JCW.

I was @ the track this last weekend with a stock IC and a scangaugeII.

My IAT's were pretty stable through out the day. Temps were in the low 80's iirc. Typical IAT's on the straights were 145-150. There was a point where I was trying to drop down into 2nd for a corner or two where I shouldn't have been and that shot IAT's up to about 180-190... that wasn't so fun.

So imo the stock intercooler is going to cool well enough to put 210hp down while beating the crap out of your car on the track.

It took my poundings quite well at 231 whp. The issue of heat is only really an issue if you spin your car up past about 7400 RPM's. I was going all the way to 8200 (WAY out of efficiency range), hence my intake temps being 60-75 above ambient.

Trust me when I say that after one drive in my car you won't care that the whine is gone. This car sounds amazing.

I used to have the Alta v.2 and I thought it worked great. At the track after a 20 min session, and at dyno's, you could lay your hand on the outlet side and it would be cool. Can't say the same for people who had the one from the alpha numeric tuner. The only reason it was removed was because of California CARB worries and we went back to the stocker.

You know that old trick muscle car guys used to use... "paint the underside of your intake white and than the top black cause it'll help with heat issues..."

What if you did that with the IC??? Think I might try that... Thoughts???
Its just paint if it dont work after all...

What's the theory behind painting the top black? Why not paint it white as well?
