So, is this bad??

I was in my garage, building my exclusive Henry© Tensioner Bar when I noticed there was rather ominous, black coating on the passenger side frame rails, as can be seen in these snaps:

As the fluid has dried on, I can only guess that this actually occurred somewhere along the 1500 miles of MITA08 last weekend. Otherwise, I've noticed no performance degradation nor oil stains in my garage.

So, as this is obviously a failed mount and is still under warranty, what are my options for aftermarket parts? Also, since tomorrow's a holiday and I can't take Maggie down to the dealer before Tuesday, how should I adjust my driving style so as to ensure there is no further damage? Gotta love that European warranty, straight 24 months. Especially since Maggie has 46k miles now! Thanks for ya'll's input.

Cheers!!

I don't know what year your car is, but MINI has come up with an improved version of the mount, so you may find that you could just replace the mount with a new OEM one and never have any more problems.

There have been loads of people with failed mounts, but I can only think of one or two people that have had to replace them more than once after the improved version came out, so MINI may have fixed the problem.

No worries! This is a quick in & out warranty repair and the replacement mounts are improved to reduce the chance of this repeating. I have not seen any aftermarket versions of these mounts, but there are add-on engine dampers available that supplement the factory mount. You'll be back to Happy Motoring in no time.

Don't worry it's just a bad motor mount, pretty common as I've replaced several of them. Dealer should warranty it without questions as long as you have less than 50k.

OK, fellas, I'm curious to know what, if any, are the possible side effects of driving my 06R53 with this broken mount? I 'think' it happened during MITA 08 and only noticed the damage this weekend. So, sometime in the last 1500 miles. Will the transmission have unusual/excessive wear because of this failed mount? Or am I worrying too much over nothing? Thanks!

Cheers!!

Too much over nothing. They cost about 60 Euro here and are very easy to swap out. (Basically the same steps as the pulley..)

Know your problem, PB? Your car lacks that awesome Abu Zavi R&D mod.

Cures cancer, too.

I'm on my third one and I've driven a LOT of miles with failed ones, including Dragon trips I don't think it hurts anything.
