Drivetrain Does anyone cleans their own Alta CAI?
Does anyone cleans their own Alta CAI?
hi everyone,
i think most of us own a Alta CAI for our MCS.
Just wondering does anyone cleans the intake and how?
In order to maintain the intake quality, i think cleaning is needed.
Does anyone knows how by ourself?
I also realized that Alta CAI is very oily.
Wouldnt the engine sucking oil instead of air in?

Alta does carry the foam filter cleaning kit.
Also any motorcycle parts, even dealer will have what you need.("no toil" is earth friendly)
Don't get a kit for fabric filter (K&N)

It is very easy.
Remove the red foam filter from the car.
Spray the cleaning spray onto the filter.
Hose off the filter from inside and out, removing all the old oil and cleaner.
Let it sit out in the sun and/or breeze for a couple hours. Once it is completely dry, both inside and out, spray it with the oil from the kit, and lightly massage it in. I find that if you put the filter in a plastic shopping bag after spraying it, you can then massage the oil in, and also install it back in the car, without getting your hands all oily. You can hold the filter on with one hand, (with the bag still around the filter), then with the other, tighten the clamp with a screwdriver.
Once tight, (not too tight; because if you over tighten the clamp, the filter will be squeezed off), then simply pull off the plastic bag.
Voila! you're done.
