I just put the Helix filter in last night. It went in quite nicely. I haven't seen the others yet so I can't offer a comparison.

The filter material looks like K&N so it wouldn't surprise me if it was K&N.

The filter is held on with a circle clamp. The clamp tension seems pretty sensitive. Tighten it too much and the filter squeezes off of the mounting lip.

I did my flapectomy by popping the flap arm out of the flap which is then held open by the flap spring. Pretty simple.

I just ordered the K&N filter (RU-3130) based on OldRick's and others suggestion. Thanks!

Question: Where is the vacuum line connection to the engine? From what I've read, this connection seems to very tricky and hard to locate. Can someone point out where this connection is at?

The Helix filter appears to be a standard K&N at twice the price.

If I were starting over, I'd buy the M-M, as it has more filter area than the K&N stock sizes, and a better fit - no need for an adapter ring.

Disclosure: I'm the guy who wrote up the stock K&N size in the first place about two years ago, and after I suggested to George at M-M that there was a market, he spec'ed and had manufactured, the current M-M version, which I view as superior, due to more filter area. George never did give me one, even though he's sold hundreds...
6^)

Having tried one once, I wouldn't use a foam filter again even if someone else bought it for me as a gift...

There's a write-up with photos on NAM somewhere. Can't remember by who, but you should be able to find it.

You will need to disconnect the intake hose. The clamp is tricky w/o the right tool but can be done. I used a couple of pilers. There is a real short vacuum line you need to disconnect. Make sure you disconnect it at the CAI housing and not at the other end b/c it's a pain to get to. One electrical line, easy disconnect at the adapter just outside the housing on the left. Lastly, some wrigglings to remove the top housing w/ filter connected.

Good luck.

Josh Wardell's excellent writeup:

Finding this in Google took all of a minute - try it sometime...
