so ive tried searching threads for invidia catbacks and found no good info. anyone have this exhaust? the tips look cooland i was wondering what total weight and HP specs were. lastly and MOST IMPORTANT ( to me ) is how does it sound? i dont want a super loud exhaust, but id like "british sports car" sound. basically im looking for pluses and minuses either way. much appreciated fellow motorers

I've had the Invidia on my car for about a year now and have been very happy. The tone is much more aggressive - no droning - and features a very nice fit and finish. I do not have weights, but do know that it's lighter than the OEM unit; as for hp, I do not believe that it may offer as much improvement as some other options. There should be some audio clips in other postings to provide an example of what you may anticipate in sound.

I used the Invidia a while back before it started to become a restriction. If you're going to go big HP, save yourself some money and go with the RMW Exhaust, you did mention that you want quiet though, so that may not be a good option. If you just want a bit more growl, the Invidia works fine, I had no complaints.

Here's a video clip from my car with Invidia/OBX Header

I've got it, and all I can say is that you're going to love it. It's not too loud (until you romp on it). Sitting at an idle is perfect for me (a nice bubbly sound). It is lighter than the OEM exhaust, and does provide a little more power on the butt-dyno. All-in-all, you're not going to achieve much from an exhaust, just basically sound, so pick which one you're going to be happy with.

There is an exhaust Reference thread on here, and towards the end, you'll find audio clips of the Invidia (it doesn't sound near as nice as it does in person... )

I've got the Invidia as well. I used to have a Remus on my '03 Cooper and that had a fantastic sound, not too loud. The Invidia is louder than stock, and if you have sensitive ears it can get annoying--I'm talking about cruising speeds on the freeway. Around town and on surface streets, everyone knows I'm coming--and I love it. In my neighborhood, the only other car that's as loud as mine is a WRX, lol, but my exhaust pops more. =)

For those with the Invidia, try removing the back seats then turn off the radio and drive for a couple of hundred miles---it's loud enough to want to wear ear plugs.

Is that bad? No not necessarily, but it is a fact.

As far as performance goes..with the following mods on my '05 MCS

Alta Intake
M7 16% pulley
Invidia Exhaust
Stock Header and Injectors
RMW Tune--I'm over 50HP from stock-currently at 202.1HP at the crank 183.4 ft/pounds of torque.

Not sure if the Invidia is much a restriction in my case.

I make 231 to the wheels right now. Previously we were having issues with breathing at high RPM's with the Invidia. I was in the 215 whp range. I'm talking about finding another 7-10 HP, nothing amazing, but when you join the $20k+ mod club everything counts .

Interesting---well dang--look at your mod list, lol. Yeah if you've got a head, header, injectors--definitely a tuned system i.e. RMW is the way to go. But until that point with basic mods, I'd say the Invidia is an inexpensive solution that sounds great---compared to Milltek, etc... that are in the $800+ range.

It's not that annoying I had the rear seat delete, and yes, it did make the exhaust more noticeable, but I actually enjoyed it. I found that by slightly and I mean SLIGHTLY pressing the gas pedal while coasting resulted in many, many, many burbles and pops. Now with my back seats in, it's almost not even noticeable...

Hahah, my wife's hearing isn't as good as mine, but even she said that in 10 years, my hearing will probably be just as bad---cause she sat in the back on a 200 mile drive we did a couple weekends ago. Compared to a Magnaflow, I'm sure it's not as loud. I mean I've heard MUCH louder exhausts than the Invidia. Mostly the quality and tone is just excellent. I like the exhaust very much--and everytime I'm going under an over pass or where there's going to be an echo---I'm on the gas just so I can hear it reverberate, lol.

Mine was good up to 214...then it was too restrictive.

The stock gaskets are crap, there's a thread about that somwhere. Other than that it's a great system and easy to install for the DIY project.

Ok, here is something of a comparison. Here is a sound clip from my families old 94 GMC suburban. It had some sort of uber highflow muffler with dual tail pipes. This video i am really only blipping the throttle a little (then again this is a 5.7L V8).

http://media.putfile.com/GMC-Suburban-exhaust

When we took this car on trips on the highway you would have to shout for the person next to you so they were able to hear you. Of course its because of this car that my parents refuse to let me touch the exhaust on my MINI (because they sometimes drive it).

Check my gallery https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...y.php?cat=1909 for 8 sound clips of the Invidia cat-back.

I bought the Invidia never having heard it live - only what little I could find at the time @ YouTube, which was pretty low sound quality compared to the real thing. But the overall character of the tone is there. Check out my sound clips. It's more aggressive than stock, not too loud, doesn't drone @ highway speeds, and nicely enhances the burble on my '04. For me it's what I was looking for.

I have the invidia/OBX combo, and it is not loud when driven gently. Step on it, though, and it does turn heads.

You can cut a few db of sound inside the cabin with minimal effort. To enhance the "sporty" note of the stock exhaust without making it too loud outside the car, the MINI designers added what can only be called "tone holes". These are the two holes in the sheet metal that allow sound into the boot, and the grille hole in the piece behind the rear seats (covering the boot) that transmits this sound into the cabin. I plugged up both of these with foam rubber.
