I'm not in interested in the Powerchips, I want the latest ECU technology the GIAC chip.....based on prior experiences I have see with VW's.....I'm sure it is well worth waiting for max performance gains....it keeps getting pushed back, anyone know for sure when it will be finally available???

Only a couple more weeks max now. Helix has been working with them and testing the chip recently and making final adjustments and tweaks. Unfortunately, Helix is on vacation this week but will be back on Monday. I was last told a couple more weeks before it is commercially available. We'll set up a road trip for anyone interested!

Any more recent news? Are we "very very close" yet? Just as long as the chip is ready by the time Deal's gap rolls around!

I believe so. I had actually left a post or two here but was lost in the crash I guess. Eric was hoping to have it ready by this weekend but was actually so busy with installs that he wasn't able to get the final testing done. So it really shouldn't be long now. Maybe a week or two tops?

Are both the MC and MCS versions close? My little MC could use a pick me up and I kind of see the Garrett Chip as PCP for a Mini

Thanks for the update Greatgro.

given the frenzy over the Evochip one week and then the Pefomance chip the next, I'm happy to wait for a thorough wring out by Eric and his dyno working out the best with Garrett

I definitely don't want to hijack the thread, but the reason people are very happy with the EVOTech and then the Powerchip Group software is because they both work.

I have no doubt that Garret will be able to come up with good software as well.

With the development from Powerchip Group, and now Garrett, I'm sure that there will be good options available. I think once you get the power and throttle response right without screwing anything else up, you are pretty much maxed out on software development. That's where we are with some of the software, and I'm sure others will follow.

Good MINI times we live in!

Eric basically mentioned to me that the Cooper chip is a few weeks further out.

Randy: I agree and disagree at the same time. I think once a good map is done, there isn't much else to do. However, Evotech and powerchips both just modifiy the current ECU. That's fine if you just want a little performance but for people who's maps start out flawed, it doesn't really help much. If you have a stumble, they are not going to get rid of it. I for one am hoping that the complete rewrite of the code gets rid of the stumble, unlike these partial remaps.

Also some other things I would like to see is optimized maps for specific fuels (94, 100, etc...) DSC defaulted to off!

While I don't know what the GIAC chip does, I hope it addresses some of these issues. If it does, I will certainly be in line waiting to get one. I am pretty unimpressed with the powerchips and evotech ECU upgrades and see them as only the first chips that give some results, certainly not the end. I think there is much more to be had from programming.

Don't get me wrong though, right now powerchips and evotech seem to be the cutting edge in ECU right now, but there is still a long way to go. So if you have to have one RIGHT NOW!, get a evotech or powerchips ECU but I plan on waiting and hopefully the GIAC chip will be everything it has been hyped up to be.
