after reading a lot of posts on intakes, i've come to the conclusion that "basically" they perform the same. the difference comes down to price, looks and the most important (to me)... the sound level. i'm looking for an intake and want to compare the noise levels of the main brands out there.
please give me the name of all the intakes you've heard and rate them from 1 to 5. 1 being the quietest. so... if the stock mcs intake gets a 1, then what does alta, webb, m7, promini, craven, helix, etc get?? thanks.
The reason for increased noise for the generic CAIs, is when you cut away the rear partition into the back. I was always under the impression that the Alta was the loudest among the generic CAIs, but I think they're all pretty loud. I have the Helix and it totally overpowered the stock exhaust. With aftermarket exhaust, it's in perfect harmony.

I have the feeling you're going to keep getting different answers...as with me, I have an Alta. It is very loud. I even had a stranger tell me at a gas station that while he was driving beside me in traffic, my supercharger whine covered up the sound of his car's exhaust. he had some sort of decked out WRX. So I guess you can rate that story as a 4.5?
i have a convertible and am trying to find an intake a little louder than stock.... if stock is 1 then i'm looking for a 3. i heard alta is like a 5. how loud does the m7, craven or webb rate?
Isn't this thread completely pointless unless the same individual is reviewing all noise volumes for intakes, or an objective measure of noise (in decibels) is taken from a certain measurement point?

i think this would work better if we could give a noise rating of atleast 2 intakes we've personally heard (for comparison sake).

All the ones you list will be nearly as loud as, if not AS loud as, the Alta. A good "in between" choice is the Dinan or JCW. I've run both. Dinan's a bit louder and, if you have the throttle whistle, you'll hear it more with the Dinan (especially in a cabrio).

Yep... now if everyone had a sound pressure meter, and took readings from the dash at various gears, RPMs and speeds... with the windows closed...that would mean something...
