BTW, I happened to venture into East Coast Lumber for some stuff from my house and I came across A2-70 10mmm x 25, 30, and 40mmm hex-head bolts. I bought two 40mm and also got a nut, flat washer, and lock washer for each--all in stainless. The head and nut size are 17mm, just like our originals that came with the Scorpion.

As I have mentioned before, my Scorpion came with two 10mm x 25mm flange bolts, no flat washers, and no lock washers; and the bolts are about 5mm too short. Not having any extras around the house, I used the supplied bolts and nuts, and each nut is threaded on about halfway. Neither appears to have loosened at all in the week since I installed it, but I'm thinking this is a problem waiting to happen. I intend to replace each with a 40mm bolt and use one flat washer and one lock washer in each. Thoughts?

Do any one of you have lowered MINIs and has that influenced your decision to get the Scorpion? It seems that having a forward muffler could present a problem on a lowered car. Since the Scorpion does not have a forward muffler, it might be a good choice for lowered cars.

I had my Scorpion exhaust installed last night. Had to have the hangers cut and repositioned as I have a 1/04 build. I could not be happier with the system, in my opinion it sounds awesome!!!! I also installed an Alta intake and the combo makes a nice difference to the sound and power/response of the car. I think I have been bitten by the mods bug, once you start you can't stop.

anyone with the scorpion exhaust installed in the Valley Area? I'm researching, and would love to see/hear it in person, or if someone can post a high quality audio-clip...

thanks.

Aussie7,

What did they charge you for installation? I'm going to have to have mine taken to a place with welding capabilities as well :???:

fueledbymetal,

I paid $80 to have it installed. the guy did a great job, got the tips refectly alligned and there are no rattles. I think it was well worth it, since it is a brand new car and I didn't want to be jerking around under the car and taking the chance I would do it wrong. If you haven't considerd it yet I would strongly recommend the Alta intake, this will give your car an awesome sound and performance difference. Also I would suggest you break the car in before you do the changes, I waited until 800 miles and I could really appreciate the change. If you do it too early you may not feel the differnce.

How are you liking it? Mine has been rock solid and sounds great, despite the fact that I installed it myself.

I have a question. I just sold my magnaflow (I loved the sound) because I ordered a 2004. yes the hangers are diffrent and thus why I sold it. Does anyone know if the now make this scorpion with the hangers the right way? or are all manufactures still producing them the old way? how much to have them welded?

Thanks

mcs22004,

Ilove my scorpion exhaust. The sound has a nice throatiness to it and a nice burble when the revs are coming down. It sounds great when you romp on it, nothing too ricey, just a cool sporty sound. I have been making my wife cruise around the streets adjacent to mine just so I can hear that sweet sound. Couldn't be happier with my choice.

Flyboy66,

If you have a 2004 build '04 MCS, the inside and outside hangers are supposedly perpendicular to each other. Since my '04 was a 10/03 build, mine were parallel, so the Scorpion went on without any modification. I would guess that this is true of most of the other exhausts as well.

I put on the 40mm-long exhaust bolts today. Surprisingly the 20mm bolts provided with the Scorpion never came loose on their own, but I figured that the nuts would fall off at the worst possible time and place.

Any updates how everybody liked their exhaust? I have a Jan 04 car and worried about the hanger issue.

I just got off the phone with Bavarian Motorsport and ordered the scorpion exhaust, I'm number four on the backorder list. They are expecting more by the end of May. I was told that the price is staying at $549, no discount for NAM members but he did say they have a sale on some stuff coming soon so if it would go on sale, just bring it up and they would honor the sale price. He stated that their sales run about two month intervals but they of course are not told sale items from management until they are on sale.(What else is new)

I asked about the hanger issue since my car was built Jan 04 and he claims that May 04 and after have a product split/difference, what the difference is he did not know. I informed him about the hanger issue being earlier then May but the records they have on microfiche claim it's May. The Microfiche did not list what the difference was either, Oh-well.

I must be just ahead of you as I ordered mine yesterday. I picked the Scorpion for similar reasons, cost being the main one. I drove a MSC with the Scorpion exh, pulley and Alta intake and liked the sound. At cruise very quiet but a good sound when on the throttle. I'll let you know how it goes after installing. The worst part is having to wait 4 weeks.

At the Portland Pulley Party this last weekend in Portland I had my UNIChip custom mapped by the tuner at Dastek, the maker of the UNIChip, on their 4 wheel dyno. The entire process took three hours. The results! With my Alta Pulley and CAI, Scorpion exhaust, and UNICHip installed they were able to pull 220.4 bhp (189.5 whp) and the Scorpion exhaust sounds amazing at redline, not quite as deep sounding as with the Milltek, but I really like it.

Here is a link to the webshot page that has my dynoplot for anyone to look at.

My car is the one Sanddan mentioned in the post above.

What was your whp with all of the mods, but before Unichip?

Using the same loss percentage, looks like you gained about 6 whp with the Unichip.

Mine's a Feb 04 build and it has the new hangers. However, you can still install this system without using the changed hangers - that's how I did it and I've had zero problems after nearly 1000 miles.

I updated my webshot page to include the pictures I took of the computer screen which show the bhp and whp. There are five different pictures from five slightly different angles. It is hard to get exact numbers from these pictures.

Hope this is what you were looking for.

sorry to make this thread come back up.. but i really want to know whether this exhaust is really a full catback as in including a mid-pipe as well as the muffler section

kinda stupid question.. sorry, but seen a couple shots of it and it appears to me it did not come with a mid pipe!
