Exhaust Comparison

There's Alta, JCW, MIlltek, Invidia, Borla, magnaflow and many more???

Am hoping with this thread get an idea of each exhausts strenghs and weaknesses. I would like to create an overview of details like quality, fit, note, resonansse, hp gains; So the average NAM member could just click and have a "real world" source of information.

Any who...you say, I anotate and I will post conclutions.

Let the games beggin

I agree on this because the present sticky about exhausts is poor. And I for one have been practically digging to china in search of opinions on exhaust and more specific the amount of resonance or drone at highway speeds 70mph-80mph.

I have the Borla Race on my 2006 MCS, and there is some resonance at
70 mph in 6th gear. I solved this little issue by only going 75 mph.

I have the Ireland Engineering catback. Not too loud at idle, and semi aggressive on take off. It sounds really nice and keeps the burble. It can drone a little at 70 mph, but if your seats are up then it's not as bad. Even still, you won't go deaf.
Like others have stated, the worst part about this exhaust are the tips. And really, they aren't tips. They just ran the pipe out the back, torched a hole in it and welded a small section of pipe over the hole for the second "tip". The exhaust was $340 and another $40 for shipping.
The exhaust took me an hour to bolt on by myself with about 2 feet of clearance under the car. If you do
a search Clyde Payne (cpayne) did an exceptional write up with pictures on what to expect and helpful tips. I think a lot of people have knocked this exhaust, but for the price, seriously, you can't go wrong. What stuck me on this kit, was first the price, but also the fact that Jeff Ireland said he feels a 1600 cc engine doesn't need 2 mufflers. I must agree. Anybody have any questions, feel free to e-mail me.

DINAN

I have the Dinan and love it! I was very picky about performance versus the "hassle factor" of most catback systems. I tried stock, one-ball and JCW and wound-up finally choosing between Dinan and Invidia. Chose Dinan because I have other Dinan components that I'm very satified with and because it's a single-sided (passenger side) system with a weight savings of nearly 30 pounds (it weighs 24 lbs) from stock. The 3" tips look amazing... Sure, I'm biased but go check for yourself. Most importantly is that the sound is low and smooth with an excellent growl. The pops and burbling on downshift sound great and NO DRONING at highway speeds! I have a very young son that sometimes sits in the back, so noise level was an important factor in my selection. And yes, the power is certainly there! I don't have exact numbers, but you can expect about the same increase as most other catback systems. It really depends on what other mods/upgrades you're running. Installation was painless, alignment spot-on with NO RATTLES (yes, you can still use your battery skidplate) and the build quality is top notch.

B&B

People have told me that it's pretty loud so I'll go with what they say. I for one don't think it's loud. But, I am sitting ahead of the exhaust 99% of the time. To me it has a nice deep sound. As far as droning I haven't noticed any. Not sure about actual gains. I'm pretty sure there is, but as far as numbers go, I don't know. Maybe I'll take a camera out this weekend and video tape it.

Hey Q-Ban,
How about you and I maintain the sticky on Exhausts? Mark who runs NAM said he'd give anyone who was willing to maintain it ownership of the thread.

If you are compiling some data, I could help edit what is there and you could add what you are getting now - plus your pie charts!

Let me know and I tell Mark to sign it over to you.

Scott

Invidia

Not to hijack this thread but thanks for hooking me up with the Invidia exhaust Q! Installed it today and I love it! Not too loud from the inside, just enough engine music for me!!!

And the blue tips just blend right in with my Hyper Blue!!!

Milltek: 9 HP gain (Webb Motorsports), 15 lb lighter than stock, great fit and finish, wonderful sound when you get on it and zero drone on the highway. I give it a A+!

I really really want to the hear the D.U.Z exhaust from Japan. Unfortunately I don't think anyone here has it.
