GIAC Flash Opinions

I've spent hours reading GIAC threads about comparisions test,hp gain etc. and still haven't found an honest answer.I decided to go with Giac due to the availabilty of the getting the flash done and costs. My mods are the basic 15% pulley,CAI,One Ball exhaust and cold plugs. 6HP doesn't sound too exciting but I'm interested in hearing from those that have the flash tune and what their opinions are:

What did it do for your car and did you notice an improvement with the seat of the pants dyno?

Knowing the results you received, would you spend $325 for the flash again?

I went the GIAC route and felt that the car was "better". From a SOP perspective it felt smoother. I then had a chance for a custom tune (LDG) and there was no comparison from SOP - even smoother, livelier revs and the car pulled harder.

Considering that the GIAC is 325 and the cost of a custom tune via a tuning party will range from 400 - 500 - it is worth waiting or finding a tuning party to attend. Right now Jan is the only one conducting tuning parties - so monitor his where abouts or get a group together and Jan will come to you.

Couldn't agree more.

GIAC was good. A nice improvement over stock in terms of smoothness.

However my RMW tune (Jan) puts the GIAC to shame. Nice increase in HP, much more torque, and even smoother than before. The engine now feels like my old Integra VTEC.

If you have the opportunity, get a custom tune.

I've had the GIAC 15% flash on my 05 MCS for about 5 months now and felt it was worth it, and still do. No question a custom tune is the way to go to get the most benefit, but the GIAC smoothed out the throttle response and gave a decent increase in overall performance. The $325 was worth it to me for the convenience and bang for the buck. I made the appointment with Evolution Motorsports (www.evoms.com), dropped by and 15 minutes later it was done and I was out the door.

I figured I'll get a custom tune down the road, but I'm still happy with the GIAC for now.

I know this thread is a couple years old but its the only one i found for giac that said anything good. i want rmw but dont have money to go to them. I am going to get the 380cc injectors, 17% pulley, and 93 octane flash because i figure that will be better than having nothing (with those mods done) untill rmw actually has a cheaper option for sending out a canned tune. thanks man

Wow and this is a good thread regarding GIAC. LOL
I would just wait and save the $325 along with another $25 bucks ($350) for an RMW tune around an adjacent state.

$350 plus dyno time.
If ya can't wait then do the GIAC, not many other options then.

I had the GIAC flash on my 04 1.8T Jetta GLI. I had a huge grin on my face as soon as I left the shop (and still do everytime I drive it 4 years later) because it was such a noticable improvement. I had such high hopes when we had the MINI flashed with it, but honestly, there was no seat of the pants noticable improvement. I found myself trying to talk myself in to thinking that it was worth the money spent on my 85 mile trip back home, but it was so close to how it was driving that I don't think it was. The true test was I didn't tell my wife that it had been flashed (it is her car) and after a couple of days of driving, she really didn't notice any difference. After we got the first RMW tune (and that was 40 whp ago), it felt just like it did before when I had the Jetta flashed. My advice is to save the money.
