Belt size for 19% pulley

I have tried 2 differnet size belts.

My pulley came with a NAPA #060539 belt. This belt made 18psi on my boost gauge. Alta's chart says that I should be using the NAPA #060535.

I have read here on NAM that the Alta chart is not correct. Unfortunately I had already bought the new belt.

So I go buy the NAPA #060535 belt and now I only get 13psi on my boost gauge, and the car does not pull like it did with the #060539 belt.

I have checked all clamps to make sure they are tight.

Does anyone have a correct size, or should I just stick with the NAPA #060539 belt.

The NAPA #060535 belt is actually smaller than the 539, so it should be a better fit. I too have the Alta 19% and I ran the NAPA 535 with no issues and am now running a Gates K060532 belt with no issues so far (only about 500 or so miles on it).

If I were you, I'd try to measure those two belts...out of curiosity...to see which one is actually longer.

Here are some common 6 rib belt sizes for our applications. I use the NAPA 60535. There may be some confusion between these different belts is the way that manufacturers measure them??:

NAPA 60535=54 1/8"/1375mm
NAPA 60539=54 1/2"/1385mm

Gatorback 4060537=53.74"/1365mm
Gatorback 4060539=54"/1371.6mm

Gates K60532=53 7/8"/1367mm (1368.4 per Google)
Gates K60535=54 1/4"/1379mm
Gates K60539=54 1/2"/1385mm

The Gates and the NAPA (I think made by the same company...) are close to the same for measurements vs. numbering system whereas the Goodyear belt is a little different.

For the 19% pulley, if it were me, I try the gates 60532 or the Gatorback 4060537.

+1 for the Napa 535.

if the 535 is a smaller belt, then why did my boost go down to 13psi? The only thing changed was the belt. The 539 belt is only two weeks old.

Dunno...that's why I'd measure them out of curiosity. Did you have the ribs of the belt all lined up right both times? Where was the tensioner bar at with both belts?

I will check the belt size.

I did also realize that with the #060539 belt, I had alot of "Yo Yo" action on the boost gauge.

With this #060535 belt, there is none.

How many miles on the car? It's been said by some tuners that replacing the tensioner assembly at around 50,000+ is a good idea. Lots and lots have probably gone well over this mileage with no ill effects...depends on how you drive your car I guess.

car has 15.6k on the clock and is driven like a baby. I hardly ever get into boost unless I want to zip in and out of traffic.

Shouldn't be a tensioner then...You'd be surprised how easy it easy to get into boost...unless you really do drive like my mommas momma

If you can reliably/accurately measure the belts, let us know. I'm curious now.

How would I accurately measure the belt?

I have learned to drive it to where I get to zero on the boost taking off and shifting at 3k rpms. Hell I get like 400 miles to a tank of gas.

I was hoping you would know If they were obviously used and the wrong size, I'd cut it and put a tailors tape measure to it.

Well, you might wait a bit to see if someone else has a better brainstorm. If you get another size, one of those would make a nice spare belt.

Get a 4 foot chunk of 2 by 4 and drive a nail in near the end of it. Place belt A over nail and pull taught. Mark length of pull on 2 by 4. Place belt B over nail and pull taught. Mark length of pull on 2 by 4. Compare the two marks.

Yep that's my wee BSc kicking in.

Ultimately, the best method-like you stated-would be buying a bunch of new belts from various manufacturers, cutting them and tailor taping them. Then we'd all know the total lengths!

Unless they all differ like a nice pair of Nike's

***There's a post somewhere about someone going into a parts store and having to measure belts to find the right size. I'm too lazy to find it now

thanks for the info.

Where can i get a gatorback belt? Doesn't O'Reilly sell them?

You need a tool like this to accurately measure the belts:

gator 537 is shorter than NAPA 535? That sounds odd cuz when I put the gator 537, tensioner hole is barely visible and NAPA reveals it clearly.. and thats on 17%..

I know this is kind of old, but I was reading through some of these belt and tensioner threads, I have been using a

Napa Micro-V: 060539 belt

for 35,000 miles on a 19% pulley and had 0 problems with it, but I just checked my tensioner and its shot. but I have a brand new belt that will go on the new tensioner, with a DT stop.

Actually figured out that my pulley started sliding off a bit. I put the part that goes on the input shaft, not on far enough. There was no instructions with the pulley for install.

Remounted the pulley and put the 535 belt back on and it has hit 18psi all day long.

I am also checking into the DT stop for insurance.
