Drivetrain Stock Cooper S torque
Stock Cooper S torque
I have a question. I somethimes read on the internet about a 'dead' spot in the torque curve on stock R56 Cooper S cars.
Is this true? Has anyone noticed it? Can you solve it with 'Sport Button'?
Greetings

Most likely what you've read are a couple people in the midst of having warranty-related issues. The R56 engine is very well engineered and has excellent drivability. Most importantly, decide for yourself and go test drive one!
Thank you very much for your quick answers.
I currently own an R55 Clubman S and I haven't noticed anything 'weird' at all. But then again it only has about 750 km on the odo.
I also have the sport button which makes the throttle more responsive.
Too bad the JCW Stage I tuning isn't available for the Clubman because I heard it solves the 'dead' spot problem.

However, you do get all the accessories such as the brake kit, the interior, the carbon airscoop, carbon mirrors, ... etc
I have been driving my Clubman S for about 1200 km now and haven't noticed anything weird in the powerband. 3rd gear from 1000 rpm to rev-limiter is supersmooth and you can feel the turbo kicking in.
And the noise it makes is brilliant, it's definitely louder and throatier than the R56 Cooper S. It pops more too, when it's warm I get 'pops' in every upshift! It's a totally different exhaust.

I drove my MINI over 160 miles yesterday, mix of highway and two lane roads, sport button on and off, and didn't notice any issues at 3500rpm. In fact, the car pulls from just under 2000 all the way to the redline. With 16 inch all-season tires, there is torque steer at full throttle, though it is a bit better after getting an alignment. Eventually, I'll have a shock tower brace and some lighter 17inch wheels and higher performance tires, so will see if that helps. Overall though, the MINI is great for a front-wheel drive car that gets almost 40mpg highway!

In the wet, I have torque steer in 3rd gear
