Odd loss of thrust

At 75MPH and staying in 6th gear, I push the gas to pass and the turbo spools up until about 3500RPM and then it sounds like the turbo lets off and there is a noticeable loss of power.

About the same time the check engine light comes on.

Within a couple starts the check engine light goes out and the dealer doesn't seem to think there is a problem since that light keep going out.

It has happened with the stock air filter, and with the K&N.

Anyone had this happen? Any suggestions as to what it could be?

Semi known issue. Relates to the DSC and Traction system. It will pull back boost over 70 mph unless sport is engaged, and the DSC turned off. Try that and see what happens!

Haven't pulled the code. Is that something I can do from home?

You would need a code reader. Is the SES light on, or did the code appear and disappear when you restarted the car?

One note is that if the ecu after some restarts of the car sees that the problem does not persist the light will go off but depending on the code it will be store and could be read by a scanner for later reference.

The CEL is telling you there's a problem with the engine that shouldn't be; get it taken care of!

This may be related to the 'No Turbo' problem posted on MINI2.
