Blew motor up!!! AGAIN!!!

Yesterday my motor locked up and is now sitting, along with two huge key marks down each side. I think they used a screwdriver
I was merging on to the 101 freeway in 2nd gear at 7100rpm and then it locked out and the belt moved over a 1/4 inch. Later this week I will be towing my car with my buddies truck to MiniCorsa to have worked on. Hopefully its just a dropped valve and didn't do too much harm. This is my second motor blow up, the first one cost me thousands to fix. I'm at the line of just giving up and getting a new R56 or 335i.

I'm bummed

Sorry to hear that. Now's the time though to make whatever part broke, even stronger and get some more power!
And don't give up on the MINI. I love seeing people who put the amount of work and time into modding a Mini like yours is.

You have to be kidding me. Jesus man I can't believe your luck.

Hate to see you leave the Mini Community but can understand your frustration.

Dang sorry to hear.

Will you be upshifting a tad sooner after she's all fixed up?

Best of luck Mario!

Hey Mario, bummer to hear about your situation. Your luck (everything from speeding tickets to tinted tail lights to blown motors) is just crap. I don't think you would be happy with the 335, I think you love the Mini too much. Best of luck getting everything figured out.

how is that even possible!?! I'd like to know what blew it if you would share when you find out. I know it wont be easy to talk about... but you've done a lot of work to mine that I am interested in.

I'd say don't give up mario... but maybe you're better off getting something that has the performance you're looking for right out of the box.

Sorry to hear about your car. Good Luck.
If it doesn't work out. Go for the new 135i or hold out for the Tii.
Again - Good Luck

Not sure what to do at this point, feeling a bit lost. Between the $2500 in key marks, fighting to keep my license with the DMV, motor blowing up and battling with my business partner, I'm beat.

I'm thinking about building the motor back up so I can trade it+cash including tranny, quaife, motor, head, cam, pistons, air/water, and ECU all at once. I guess I should sell everything off it including my new RPF1 wheels I just bought. I also need to sell Mercedes E55.

Time to start over??? Still not sure.

Holly Mary mother of Jesus!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT AGAIN.

What in the world is going on man??!! I can't believe you are having this many problems on the same car. I hope it's not as bad as last time. I will call you soon to talk to you but mean while just chill and don't get to worked up. Nothing you can do now. Everything will work itself out with time.

Sorry about your luck, man.

Just an observation here... I think you over reved it. I don't mean to be mean, but increasing the rev limiter for more power is something I would never do.

Work with me here, the highest oil pressure my car puts out is about 60-62psi, it is at this level when nearing redline. I have not driven other MINIs with oil gauges, but I assume this is the limit of the stock pump. I have heard from sevral mechanics, many of whom dabble in racing of sevral forms, and they say that an engine needs 10psi of oil pressure per 1,000 rpm for the engine to last. It seems that if the MINI's oil pump can only output about 60psi of pressure, the engine is starved of oil at +6k. It might not seem like 6800 is far from 7100, but even the stock limiter is too high for the pump, never mind 7100. When an engine is going that fast and it doesnt get enough oil...well, bad things can happen.

I am truly sorry about your MINI, I just want people to be aware that the rev limiter was set at 6800 for a reason.

well it sux but could be a turning point. for the dough spent already you could have the badest original cooper out there. say a 67 with a vtec or i380 and lots of fun i'll bet . patch it up then decide . trust me it's only money compared to health and loved ones . good luck .
