Blow off Valves

I've read the old threads about the BOVs. Does anyone have a video or sound clip of the Alta one yet?

I've also looked at the Forge. It looks simpler to install and alot the cheaper in price haha.

Are there any other ones out there? And what BOV for the R56 would everyone recommend when upgrading the performance?

Thanks in advance.

I had the Forge BOV fitted, but was too much for me. A WOOOOOSHHHH every time i changed gear or took my foot off the gas, even when i was just cruising! I'm 19 years old... I'm ment to enjoy that kindof thing! but drew wayyyy too much attention and has since been removed! I would say go something else! Find something that actually has performance benefits!

I'm 20, I'll be 21 in Feb., but I've pretty much bought every relatively cheap performance parts. I purchased the items in my Coming Soon in my sig. Haha
I just need to put them on the car.

Hmmm, I'm interested in this as well for a cheap mod. I read on the Forge site that their BOV adds quite a bit of sound, but I didn't think it'd be obnoxious. I have the ALTA CAI/boost tubes/turbo inlet hose and find the sound of the stock DV to be quite nice. Then again I know an actual BOV will turn up the volume quite a lot. While I could for just a bit more volume, in all honestly the current sound is loud enough for my tastes. By the way, I'm 20 as well and turn 21 in late June.

So the Forge unit doesn't reap any performance benefits at all!?! Just in reading their description I thought it would... My guess is one has to seriously turn the power up before a part like that becomes beneficial from a true performance standpoint.

Cam07Walker, any sound clips of your setup by any chance? Would highly appreciate it.

Awesome, thanks a lot!!! It doesn't sound so bad in the first two clips with just the Forge BOV. However in that last clip where it's combined with the ALTA CAI, it's way too loud for my personal tastes. Granted, that's an under-hood shot though, so I'd really wanna hear it from the outside with it closed.

no performance benefit, and you're going to run rich (air/fuel mixture will be off = bad for the car)

My car is the one in the second clip. (Silver Mini Cooper S) Since then I have installed the Alta CAI as well. And when you are everyday driving, you barely hear them. Only when you open the car up do you here both of them well. I would get both if you have the money. If you don't then just get the CAI because it gives you performance gain and it sounds FREAKING COOL.

Not again. If a bov is properly functioning it WILL NOT vent excess air while you're running. I had an HKS bov on my GTI and the only time I could get it to run really rich was if I revved and blew off 20 times in a row. It will NOT make you run rich. If you're running richer it means your bov is leaking and venting air all the time. That being said the bov/dv sound is loud enough for me with just the cold air intake. I wouldn't spend extra on a bov thats not needed nor makes you any faster.

I have a homemade CAI, switching over to the Alta CAI. Yea, it defientely sounds awesome. I wanted to go with the Alta BOV, but the Forge is the same thing and as you know it's alot easier to install.

Does anyone know about the Alta one? There is an adapter on jscspeed so you don't have to drill into the intake manifold.

They are not the same; Forge sandwiches the stock BOV, and is still computer controlled for DSC, etc.

Alta's operates on pressure, and mounts independently of the stock bypass valve.

The Forge is a noisemaker; the Alta will actually function independently of the ECU (but is really only 100% useful when you can remove the stocker which hasn't been possible yet).

If you get the vacuum adapter that we (JSC Speed) sell on the website, installing an Alta BOV is less than a 30 min job.

I know they aren't the same functionally. I should have stated that, my bad. I'm looking into the Alta one will I have to buy the blockoff valve as well or will the car freak-out?

Why do you want to replace the stock valve so bad? The forge spacer works for it. APR also has a setup for it. Its a great piece and part throttle is amazing, the computer controls the valve very well

Ok on the alta version it is meant to work with the OEM valve or independent. We are aware that on cars with the ALTA ECU the added boost pressure can be better removed with the extra ALTA valve installed. But Jeff will publish more information when he gets back from Hawaii.

Also, we will be offering the MAP standoff with fitting for use on BOV and boost gauges within a few weeks.

If I can answer any other ?'s please let me know!
