Difference between JCW head and stock

I searched but didn't really get any specific answer. What is the difference between the JCW and stock head? I am guessing valving and that is it.

Looking at the JCW kit or I may go with a 15% pulley, injectors, and JCW ECW upgrade (already have a CAI). I will also be putting on n exhaust and header.

JCW is supposed to be higher flowing than the stocker, but not by much.

I know it may look like a plug for Madness...I'm just using the image to illustrate some possible differences between JCW & stock.

Clearest image I could dig up quickly.

If I remember correctly though, the stock "S" head doesn't go up to .4 lift...somewhere in the low .3 range....I think.

I have the JCW kit and I tell you that an other strong MSC with a 15% an a CAI will be right beside you ... get a GOOD head or save your $$$ and get a 17% if you don't need lots of power

From what I see in those numbers there is some improvement (their product) but nothing over the top. I would have figured a little bit more than that.

Guess I will go with the CAI, injectors, 15% pulley, and ECU flash. This is besides the header and exhaust. Probably go with a little bit better flowing intercooler if I can find one that will look fairly stock.

Be aware on this note that you'll be hard pressed to find a better intercooler than stock (or the GP one). Most end up being a money bucket for marginal, none, or negative results. Do a thread search and you'll see what I mean.

I keep looking at the GP one for the extra size but stock look. Most of the third party ones with the diverters I have seen are a little too extreme for me.

Still on topic, I confirmed that the lift on the stock Mini's is the low .3's....standard camshaft is 8.5mm lift = .33 inches.

Granted this doesn't include effects of rocker geometry, as yet an unknown variable to me.

Anybody use Ultrik valves? I used them. I don't know what they did because I did many mods at one time including the port polish and 5 way valve grind but they looked slimmer on the cut and more fancy. You really can't go too big before you have to redesign where the valves go.

Thanks for the numbers. I know the JCW head has better flow but does it have different valve seats? OR different grind?
