Drivetrain Diamond Racing Turbo Upgrade...Sneek Peek
Tracy-
Anything new with the turbo system? A lot of us are interested to see it in action. Can you send me an email about what we are doing with the Viper intake? Thanks. I can't wait to see all the details and specs to the turbo kit(s).

Since you are fond of quotes, I offer you one....
"put up or shut up"
Guys like Randy or Eric and Chris at Helix are out there installing and showing off what they have. Where are your dyno sheets who has seen you run 12 second 1/4 miles? I go to your site and I see "all show, no go" stuff.
You have no exhausts, springs & coilovers are "coming soon," "engine performance" is made up of wires and a superchips ECU upgrade.
Really the only performance type stuff I can find on your site are the wires and the pipercross filter.
What I found really funny was the following quote from your web site:
So no original ideas? I can make a lot of claims like I have a 500hp AWD MINI S all I want on a web board. Does that mean you should assume that I have one? No you'd laugh at me till I showed up and blew you away at an AutoX or track event. Of course I don't have a 500hp AWD MINI S so that's not going to happen. No one is asking you to spend time and write a HOWTO like Randy or even hack the computer like Andy or even open a shop and do installs. Just please do your homework before you start spreading false information and if you don't come up with a reliable turbo that makes 387+ HP I will respect you even less than I do now. There are many people on MCO that make great contributions and I don't want to try and name them all for fear that I may forget someone but almost everyone gets critisized in some way at first and a lot of times it helps the final product. So as I said in the beginning "Put up or shut up"

All of Diamond Racing's Perfromance Parts and Accessories have been ideas or suggestions offered by other owners of the MINI Cooper, most of them from discussions with other owners.

>>Funny how you know the book and author but do not practice any of his teachings. There is a reason why that book still sells tons of copies even though it was first published before the average age of the MCO member.
>>
>>I guess these guys who do this stuff need to let us know. I am fortunate or not, based on the posts of the past few days, that I have been able to participate as much as I had.
>>
>>Even though it was heated at times it can still be fun.
>>
>>Good or Bad.
>>
>>I guess as long we do not become to big of jerks.
>>
>>I would still buy you guys a beer if our Minis happened to be at the same place. Because, I still would not know who all of you are. You may not accept it because you know my name. But none the less...

Tracy,
I am the resident MCO "pain in the ***." You'll learn to look past my condescending attitude and love me for the genious that I truly am.
Don't take life so seriously, you're not getting out alive. That being said, I'm tired of giving you free publicity so I'm signing off this thread. Paypal me a dollar if you want me to reply.

How do you know that the information we are giving you is "false"? Do you honestly think we get off on fooling people in online message boards? Lets just say this, nobody knows what the MINI's engine can do for sure. There are plenty of engines out there that have there power raised by over 300hp. Did the people know they could make such extreme modifications when the engines for these cars firsty came out? No. Lets take the Toyota Supra for example. This car makes around 300hp stock. There have been turbo upgrades that push the hp to over 1000! I haven't seen what the turbo kit for the S looks like. I have no idea how anything on the car is going to hold up to that amount of power. I do however trust that Diamond knows what they are doing. Simply put, don't make judgements until you know what you are talking about. Have you done any turbo mods to the S?
Tracy, all I can say is this: Bring in the goods!
As a CVT owner I am very interested to see what you have coming down the pipeline. The CVT is a wonderful car and also the most misunderstood model in the entire lineup.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.
Let's end the animosity here, please!

CooperSpeed,
I hate correcting people, but I just read an article about a 96 Supra that is producing 1200 Hp! Twin MegaTurbos... I didn't think it was possible, but some of these tuners are amazingly gifted in the engineering dept. I say, lets see what happens. If the MINI can get to 400 Hp, cool. I would never run it, but it would be pretty damn neat.

I would suggest you run out and purchase a book on elementary logic and possibly invest in a course in reading comprehension. He was arguing that his credibility with respect to turbocharging should not be questioned because he is a Gulf War veteran. I am at a loss to explain what relevance that has to turbocharging cars. Why bring it up? How does his military status bear on this entire exchange? It is special pleading to try to gain sympathy and redirect attention from criticism.
TTFN, HAND.

Thanks for the advice Nuvolari--very professional of you. I understand the intent of you post, but your wording indicates different. Maybe you should take your own advice.

Oh, I didn't write that people don't drive around with performance mods in CA. If you look at most of the catalogs for aftermarket parts you will see the disclaimer about being for offroad use only. if you are discussing mustangs, you will find that many of the aftermarket intakes do have carb numbers. Many superchargers such as Vortech or Paxton have carb numbers and are legal for use in CA. Even aftermarket heads have carb numbers. Check out the web for mustang parts and many will have EO numbers for CA. Exhausts may or may not be legal depending on if they meet the legal sound levels or not and if they utilize the stock cats. The Honda guys run around with aftermarket turbos or non factory engines swaps that aren't legal but they have connections to get around the smog. Let's just say if that if you are off the street trying to get a smog and the tech recognizes an aftermarket part without a EO number you'll be seeing a smog refereee.
One thing I didn't mention is that a smog check is not required by the original purchaser of the car until six years after it has been first registered under smog II. Under smog I it was four years. But if the car is purchased used, it must be smogged, and smogged every two years thereafter.
I don't know what the typhoon is but if you post a link to it I will be able to learn about it.

Forgot to mention that I know a little about CA smog because I have been investigating a turbo for our Lexus. This includes engine swaps using information from the CA BAR(bureau of automotive repair).
I haven't been on the MCO board in several days, and I just read this entire thread start to finish. I would like to nominate it for the funniest thread of all time. I have been laughing my *** off for the last half hour. These posts from Diamond are absolutely ridiculous, and they just keep getting better!
By the way, for anyone who's interested: I have a new carbon fiber seat cover that adds at least 25 hp at the wheels! Email me if you're interested.

I've already had to see a smog refereee for my moss mini intake which had no CARB #. I'm going to get a legal intake in the future like the AEM of K&N intake. When I had to get my smog check they put it on the rollers.
Give the Diamond Racing guys a break! Theyre really cool guys and they have some nice MINIs.

So, who do you trust with HP gains? Is it the other sites that are around? How do you know for sure that online companies aren't giving false information about pulley HP gains? You see dyno results that people post online, but how do you know that they are even real? I am not saying that people post false informtion about their cars or products, but why the hell must "sleepless" doubt this mod?
Sleepless - Why don't you listen to your sponsor "reality" and realize that you are wrong and you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Have you ever had any experience with turbocharging? Further yet, do you have any experience with how much power the MCS engine can really handle? Go take your "real" knowledge and come up with something to prove us wrong.

I just revisited this thread after giving up on it the first day it was posted. But my curiousity of why it was still in circulation brought me back to it again. I find it ironically synchronistic that while nuvolari, Daytona, sleepless, DiD, macncheese, andy@rosstech and others were expressing their opinion of the professionalism of Diamond Racing, I posted a similar comment on the Green Twister thread. I said:
"Sorry to be so snotty to you Chris (Cooperspeed), it's just that Diamond Racing has posted nothing here but a lot of hot air. They could easily get independant dyno results on the products they sell, just like some the other vendors do. When others have asked them questions on the boards, their replies, IMO, are poorly written and sound like they don't know what they're doing. Maybe they're great MINI tuners, but their representation on MCO is less than professional. Now they have you posting sneak peeks that are unviewable or inaccurate, only for you to correct the information later (I'm referring to the turbo thread). I know they are one of your sponsors and you've had good dealings with them. But it just looks like a shabby operation from where I'm sitting."
Tracy, you need to seriously take a look at your representation here in MINI land. Most of us have come to these forums with an open mind, with enthusiasm and support for anyone who will further the potential of our beloved cars. I have followed every one of your posts since you joined MCO, secretly cheering for you and your company to succeed. You had the opportunity to tap into a specialized market of CVT owners, being the only one that had the insight to modify the least popular model. You have the best dynomometer at your service and you have obviously spent tons of time and money modifying your own cars. You should know your stuff. But with each post here, you have decreased my trust in your competence. There are many ways to build a successful MINI tuner business. Randy has chosen to use MCO as his way to develop confidence and trust in potential customers. He's well spoken, friendly, and devotes a ton of time to answer technical questions and offer advice. That is his way. Eric at Helix has had almost no online presence here. He, instead, has chosen to let his work speak for itself by doing top notch work and building his business based on word of mouth referrals. His customers have been the ones to post praises of his manner, his integrity, and his expertise. But you have not done either. Writing is obviously not one of your strengths, so stop trying. You are only digging yourself a bigger grave with each response on this thread. And as much as I like Cooperspeed, he's not the best one to represent your company either. We love Coops, but do you think we trust the word of one of youngest, most inexperienced members of MCO? He hasn't even done mods to his S, yet, so in this online world of impressions, he comes across as a passionate, young, but sometimes hasty member. What would add to your credibility here is to enlist some of your customers with a talent for the written word to tell us about their experiences with Diamond Racing. Post your dyno results, tell us about your successes, tell us about your failures. Give us your honest impressions of your work in progress. I'm still routing for your company to succeed. I'm like that, I guess. There's room for everyone and in this growing MINI market, I still believe that you have the best chance to create a niche for yourself with the CVT.

Open mind? MINI websites are the worst when it comes to this. Just a bunch of old farts who think they know a lot of s^@t.
