there are plenty of cars that dont have LSD that are FWD with over 220 hp. that being said, it definitely wouldnt hurt but installing a LSD after purchase is very very expensive.

i dont think that the cost will be too high for a person who made an r56 220bhp. it must be around 1500-2000 bucks installed.
google Quaife torque biasing differential for r56

and its way better than the factory lsd.

what is the factory lsd

What does the factory use for an lsd? Not a torque biasing?

well i consider 1500-2000 a lot of money... especially considering the factory LSD is a 500 dollar option that is under warranty.

May I asumme that you do not have a 220 hp MINI? From the little I know, I bet that the aftermarket LSD will only be a fraction of what has already been spent! As for warranty, I'm assuming thats long gone too!

Need and want are 2 very different issues. :-)
I have the facrory LSD on a stock "05 MCS and it helps immensely, particularly accelerating out of turns in the rain or out of a hot turn.
The factory unit is a viscous coupling device whereas the Quaife utilizes helical gears. Were the Quaife unit available as an option I'd have gone that way.
From what I've been reading and hearing, 220hp out of the R56 is mostly bolt-on and not horribly expensive, eg., JCW on R53's. Warranty issues aside, if you have a couple of grand to spare, go for it!

I had my car over 220 wo a lsd and was told by many that it was not a big deal..... always felt the car was not complete wo it. when I replaced the clutch and fw I put in the Quaiffe and I am very pleased ... should have done this a long time ago..... you can start accelerating out of the corners so much earlier..... the car just feels a whole lot better to me.... if you have the $ budgeted I would go for it. $2000 is not trivial money to anyone I know either..
