Sounds like pure boost, i love that sound.

Thats not "pure boost".....thats the exhaust trying to get out and hitting a 'wall" with those small cutouts they made for the tips. its like pinching the tip of a blow gun and getting that loud screetching noise...

Im most likely cutting the tips off and welding on raw 2 1/2in dual tips str8 out

Wow wow wow!!

I just saw this. What the hell are they thinking? No wonder they aren't making this any more. I would shi% a purple twinkie if I purchased the volt then found this .

maybe theyre like that to keep up backpressure at low RPM??? who knows? has anybody enlarged these holes yet? if so, what have you noticed, sound/performance wise?

i will be doing that soon....im cutting the tips off and opening the holes up and welding on stainless steal tips in 2 1/2in ea side so ill see if the noise is difference once this is done.

Well, I just got mine and mounted it this weekend. Took me about 3 hrs, but it was my first time under the MINI.

Of note - it fit like a damn glove. Getting the rear piece with the 2 mufflers on the hangers was a real B*tch. But, it did fit perfectly once on.

Everything else was dead simple - and pretty - very pretty. The welds are nice, and where they joined the rear trumpets to make the cone shaped pieces there are no outer seams to be found. Some nice work. Like a mirror.

I can confirm the cutouts that 1FSTMINI showed in his pictures. But, I can also confirm that this is much louder than stock, but a nice loud. Not thundering, not Magnaflow. There is no highway drone, but there is a 30mph, 3rd gear drone.

Although the vendor is not here to defend themselves, I have to think that the tried a bunch of designs and hole sizes before settling on the 2" x 1" cutouts at the rear.

I don't think that these were intended to be cheap. There is too much workmanship in them for that. They were originally pricing these to compete with the rest of the bunch, but decided that custom was not their game, and volume via OEM sales was, so they sold these to Detroit Tuned at cost or less. The savings then go on to us since these are the last ones in existence.

So, I'm defending my purchase. I'm not a Mechanical Engineer, but I'll get that there is a reason for the design for these things.

I like mine, and that's my opinion.

I've got video of stock, no muffler (yikes!), and with the new Volt. Post them in a few days once I get a cable that was missing from my video camera.

Jack - why waste money and weight on a muffler and piping at all? Just take it off!

30mph 3rd gear? You crazy

Jack

Noticed it in Traffic (with a capital T). You mean all you guys don't drive like that?

To a point. I finally decided on the Ireland Engineering, which costs right around the same price as the Volt. The construction is beautiful, and the only downfall are the tips. However, they aren't really "tips", but 2.5 stainless piping. Since the second "tip" is a small section of 2.5 piping welded over a torched hole in the main pipe, this makes what sounds like a metallic tornado coming out he back at high speed full throttles. There is no real restriction, as the main pipe is free flowing. I guess the exhaust trying to go through the small hole of the second "tip" is making the noise. I couldn't ask for a better exhaust for the price. I really thought about the Volt, but in the end the IE won out due to certain reasons. I agree that you get what you pay for, but me, I'm not spending $700 on an Alta Sportone, when the IE has the same design and materials. Had I gone with the Volt, I would have just grinded away material inside the pipe and been done with it.

Volt MCS exhaust

Installed my Volt MCS cat back exhaust last weekend.
Intant power gain and what a sound!
The best part......no drone at highway speed.

A plug for Chad from Detroit Tuned. He got the exhaust out for me quickly and it fit just as easily as he said it would.

Randy's "How to" was a great help also.

Motor on!

How to

Randy's "How to" covers a cat-back installation from stock to Magnaflow but applies to most installations.

loud-er......even with the radio on a normal setting or alil higher than normal you can hear the exhaust 100%. might be louder in my car because i have no rear seats or paneling in the rear.

im thinkin about spraying the inner body with sound deading to quiet it up alil but i know it wont help that much

Did you do this yet? Or did you enlarge the holes?
