I'm moving to CA and therefore selling my BMP racing filter kit (see marketplace post), so I want to get a K&N to go with the stock airbox that I'll be reinstalling.

Where's the best place to buy?

tia,

In california your options for a stealthy drop in filter would be K&N, Green and UNIfilter.
For K&N see
at http://www.martelbros.com/
Manufacturer: K&N
Part Number: KNN 33-2270
Description: 2003 MINI COOPER Cooper S, engine type 1.6L L4 F/I Replacement Air Filter ** Recommended related item - Filter Servce Kit 99-5000 **
You Pay: $ 35.73

or http://www.ajusa.com/cgi-bin/knfilte...rt_num=33-2270
K&N Part # 33-2270
List Price $ 54.97
You Save $ 19.00
Your Price $ 35.97

For Green filters for $52.34 see Turner
http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html...?subcat_id=143

For UNIfilter (foam filter) for $39 see
http://www.mini-motorsport.com/intake-mcs.php

My choice would be the Green Filter if I had to replace my Madness intake.

Thanks, Minihune. That's extremely helpful.

If I can trouble you some more: why do you prefer the green filter to the K&N? --better protection, more HP???

thanks!

I've talked to RandyBMC about this topic. K&N has a recognizable name and isn't the best filter in terms of performance. People that race imports will use either Green filters or foam filters. There is a debate over which is better. The UNIfilter I listed is less expensive so on a budget it is worth considering. The Green costs more but has a lifetime guarantee, should perform as well as any drop in filter can, and over time should do well.
I have used K&N drop in filters myself in the past for other cars and they are OK but nothing to really write home about.
If you have Flash shockwave then see http://www.greenfilterusa.com/ for more info.
