not sure where to post this one exactly, so here it goes.
the last few weeks, my gas gauge gives me the wrong readings. this has only happened twice now. both time were on the same day that i filled up, but later in the day after the fill up. i will start the car and i won't get the reading telling me how many miles till i'm out, and my needle is below the empty mark (where it would sit when the car is off). at the same time the last marking on the gauge is red telling me that i'm getting close to being out of gas, you've all seen it light up. i would shut the car off and restart it, and still like that, i would even open and then reclose the gas cap hoping it would do something. and still no luck. does anyone know why it would do this?
my only mods are intake and cut out teh box behind the intake.
any help would be appreciated. as it fixes itself when restarting the car at times, but on it's own when feeling like it. once i get the right readings it's fine again.
thanx

The air intake has nothing to do with the gas gage or the electrics of the car, so I would count out any mods you’ve done. There is a sensor for the fuel tank which reads the amount of gas left in the tank. Sounds like a trip to the dealer, but of course it will be hard to duplicate for him unless in the off chance it happens that moment. Let us know what it is. This is not a problem that has been on the board before.

I am having the same problem and it is also intermittent. When I picked the car up, my MA said that he was concerned because the tank read empty and he had just filled it. Apparently there is a sensor that can come loose - I believe mine is just plain faulty.

And they didn't offer to diagnose and fix it? They just let you drive off? Unbelievable!

The fix was that the MA noticed, sent it back to the shop, and when I took delivery, it seemed to work. Since then (relatively early on) it has been intermittently flaky. Usually on cold start. Most often when I turn the car off and back on, it 'jumps' back into position. Currently, it happens 2-3 times/week.
