DDMWorks Announces R56 Street Intake
DDMWorks is proud to release the R56 Street Intake. During testing we discovered that the stock intake on the R56 MINI goes into vacuum during hard acceleration choking off the engine and restricting maximum power. The goal of the street intake was to open up the intake and allow the engine to take in as much air as possible, increasing power, providing better throttle response and faster turbo spool. The Street intake was designed to be a two stage system, as a standalone intake or working with our Ram Air Scoop which feeds high pressure ambient air to the filter, further increasing throttle response and power from the engine. The UNI Foam filter that is included with the intake allows the sound of the turbo spooling up and the blow off noise of the bypass valve to be heard during shifting. A K&N filter is also offered, allowing more sound to be heard during shifts. Both filters work equally well, but now with a choice, the sound of the intake can be tailored to the tastes of the driver. The intake kit consists of a unique bracket that locks into the bottom of the stock intake creating a pocket to hold a high flow filter. The filter is then connected to the air flow meter using a silicone connector secured with stainless steel hose clamps. All other hardware on the intake is also stainless steel. Complete installation can be done quickly and without any modifications to the car and can also be completely returned to stock just as quick. The intake is offered in DDMWorks Stainless Steel or black matte powder coat. Custom colors and finishes available upon request.

The DDMWorks Ram Air Scoop (RAS)
A nice upgrade for the Street intake is the Ram Air Scoop. The shape of the DDMWorks RAS was designed to accelerate the incoming air from the hood scoop and keep feeding cold air into the turbo and engine. Two air diverters on the back of the RAS direct the incoming air down and wash the filter on the street intake with a cool ambient air supply. By attaching the RAS to the bonnet, regular maintenance of your MINI is completely unaffected with the intake installed. Things like spark plugs, oil filter and oil fill are just as accessible as stock. The RAS attaches to the bonnet using existing mounting points, requiring no drilling or modifications for installation. Testing showed that open filters without the RAS in place see good temperatures during light cruise, but during long pulls the temperature of the incoming air continued to climb as the turbo heated the air coming in through the hood scoop. With the simple addition of the RAS on those intakes, temperatures stayed only a few degrees above ambient, which resulted in better throttle response and more consistent power. All hardware included with the RAS is stainless steel. No modifications of the vehicle are required for installation. The RAS is offered in DDMWorks Stainless steel, or black matte powder coat. Custom colors available upon request.

Special pricing on the Street Intake Stage 2 which includes the intake and the RAS is $375

Also be sure to check out the DDMWorks Race Intake System.

Dyno results? Before? After? Looks interesting btw.. I used to have a Midknight Airbath on my GTi VR6 and it used to ECHO off the hood of my GTi. :-).

Pic of the RAS? Video of pulls? How long will this pricing last?

So the difference btw the street intake and the race intake is that the airbox is closed on the latter? Why? And why not just get the race intake and the RAS? It looks cleaner.

Because the street intake is $60 cheaper than the race intake.

krut - We will get a dyno graph up today of the Street intake vs. stock. Although it will look similar to the race intake on the dyno. Everything that we see on the dyno has looked very similar to the Race Intake. Once you open the hood and have fans blowing at the intake, all of the intakes perform about the same on the dyno. The difference is on the street when the hood is closed, and I will post the graphs we have on that with the dyno's.

e30r56 - There are some pics of the RAS on the thread about the Race Intake, but I will post some on this thread for you also. As for pricing on the street intake, that is going to be the price for the intake until we need to change it based on production costs, but that should be awhile.

spfdhed - We wanted to really have some options for everyone with the new R56. So we created 3 tiers of intakes at 3 different price levels.

The street intake - stage 1 - This is the intake you see at the top of this page. It opens up the intake and allows the engine to breathe better, improving power. The downside is that when you close the hood and start driving it does not see ambient air temperature, which does hurt performance, it also does not see any real pressure at the filter, which also hurts performance. However for the money, It is definitely the best intake on the market, with simple installation and good performance it is hard to beat!
Price - $189

The street intake - stage 2 - This is the same as the stage 1 intake but with the addition of the Ram Air Scoop (RAS). The RAS lowers the intake temp down to ambient at the filter on the street intake. We all know that colder air going into the turbo will make more power than hot air, and on the street the stage 2 sees better throttle response and more push off of the line because of the cold air it sees. With the addtion of the RAS your filter will now see ambient conditions during all driving conditions, still no real pressure at the filter, but a great improvement over stock, and a nice increase in performance from the stage 1.
Price - $375 (when purchased together, or $389 when purchased seperately)

The DDMWorks Race Intake System (RIS)
- The race intake system is our best design for a R56 intake. The totally enclosed box completely seals it off from any engine bay heat reaching the filter. Ambient air is the only thing that your filter will see during driving. Also with the RAS sealing to the top of the filter box all of the air that is coming into the box builds pressure at speed inside the box. The RIS has the highest pressure of any intake that we tested. Although the pressure is not on the magnitude of several PSI, it is enough pressure to cancel out the pressure loss through the filter, air flow meter and most of the intake leading to the turbo. So with this intake you get the best, ambient air temperatures and building pressure with speed. The best intake we offer for the R56.
Price - $448

Hope that helps everyone make sense of the different intakes that we offer for the R56. We have done a lot of testing on all the different set-ups out there and really wanted to bring out some options for everyone to pick from.

Let us know what else we can do for you!

Hello Everyone!

Attached are the pressure vs speed graphs and the temperature vs. speed graphs of the intake testing for the Street intake. Also attached is the dyno graph of the intake vs. stock.

Here are some more descriptions of what the different intake descriptions indicate:

PFB - Pressurized filter box, the completely sealed air box that is part of the RAce intake system (RIS)

RAS - Ram Air Scoop, the part of our intake that attaches to the underside of the bonnet (hood) that directs air directly to the air filter from the factory hood scoop.

Tube on - This means that the factory intake tube that runs from the front of the car by the radiator and runs the lower portion of the factory air box is in place.

Tube off - Same as above except the tube is removed from the car with the opening in the lower portion of the box open to the engine bay.

Scoop blocked - This means that the factory hood scoop has the original plastic "grill" in place as the car is delivered. Our test car is a later version that had every other row open.

Scoop Open - This means that factory hood scoop is open and the factory "grill" is removed allowing all the air to enter through the scoop.

Exposed filter - This is means that the filter was not enclosed in a box in the back of the engine bay. A good example of this is our street intake.

Hopefully that will allow everyone that has made homemade intakes understand what they are probably seeing compared to the intakes on the market.

Let us know what else we can do for you!

so...looks like +/- 5hp over stock depending on RPM range?

PGT - The peak difference is about 5 HP, however after 5K there starts to be around 8HP and 8ft/lbs of torque difference. Alta is posting 10 horsepower gain above 5K RPM's on their site, but their dyno's are also corrected to show flywheel horsepower not wheel horsepower, and depending on what correction factor they are using, puts them about the same as us. With all of the dyno testing we have done it really appears that those are the gains to be seen by this type of intake.
