What will happen if I replace my resonantor with a glass pack?

I know this is in the MCS forum, but I need a quick response and more Mini owners here will have experience.

I have a MC with miltek exhaust and I am absolutly SICK AND TIRED with the rattle from my resonator. As soon as the car warms up, it rattles constantly when you let off the gas. It's so annoying that I want to kill myself. I've tried to contact miltek, stratomasphere, etc to get a replacement with no response by email or phone and have given up (the exhaust is out of warranty anyway, so, yeah...)

I'm stopping at a exhaust shop tomorrow, since I have a half day, and see what they can do. I want to either A) remove the resonator or B) install a glass pack in place of the resonator. What will either of these options do the sound? I love the sound of the miltek with CAI (deep and subtle, with a high note when get up in the revs), but I don't want to cut out/change the resonator with a glass pack if it will change it into a ricer hornet or sound like crap.

Has anyone done something like this? how did it end up changing the sound? Any help will be greatly appreciated

Signed,
MC owner going insane.

Are you sure all the hangers are still in good shape? Check out the ones in the center, the rubber may be cracked.

It's definitly the resonator. We put it on a lift to listen and that is definitly where the sound is coming from. When it first started I check everything to make sure it was tight and made sure nothing was touching the heatshield, and found nothing. I even dropped the exhaust and pulled the heatshield off to make sure the short throw extension was not hitting the heat sheild. I wish it was somehting simple like that

This is almost certainly the issue, and easier to deal with than replacing the resonator, IMO.

It is not the issue. Common Sense told me to check that first. I have stood under the car ,while it was on a lift, with someone giving it gas and the rattle (very tin-ey and high pitched) is clearly coming from the resonator. It's a baffle that breaks loose inside from what I've been told (common problem with these apparently) and I cannot get a response from Miltek to get a replacement.

Same thing happens to Borla Race...cut it off and weld on a 18" glass pack or Flowmaster Hushpower2 depending on how you like your sound...

I've heard your car before and it's great. I'm off to the exhaust shop in about 2 hours so hopefully they can do something... today.

It's done!

Went the the exhaust shop just now and caught them on a slow day with no one in there. It took 30 minutes and 60bux to put a glass pack on it. On the drive home I noticed no adverse effects in sound other than the rattle being replaced by a deep and sweet mellow tone. No drone in the car. When I got home I took a broom stick and tried to hit the gas while standing behind. Definitly different from the outside but couldn't get a real good feel. I'll get the girlfriend to do some fly by's later tonight.

Thanks to everyone for the help in convienceing me to go do it!

I think the highlight of it all was the guy using his cigarette to light the torch
