ENGINE DAMPENED

RECENTLY I BOUGHT THE TSW ENGINE DAMPER FOR MY 06 JCW .I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW MUCH ADDITIONAL VIBRATION I WAS GETTING AND THE EXTRA CABIN NOISE WAS GIVING ME A HEADACHE.SORRY FOR A NEGATIVE FIRST THREAD.THE TSW IS CURRENTLY BACK IN ITS COSY SHIPPING BOX

Did you try to adjust it?

that's an included with engine dampers. more engine noise is transfered to the cabin along with vibrations. it's normal to a point. i got used to it. and i love it.
hopefully you work something out tho.

I only had noise at cold startup on my TSW. I sold it to a member here and he commented it was set too tight and loved it once he re-adjusted. I didn't adjust it as TSW says they do before shipping. Might want to give it another shot...I like what it did

If it is bound up or rubbing on something it will vibrate

The heim joints must aligned so they are free and any brackets touching something ,like the SC horn will cause vibration. Obviously the damper should be adjusted to control the movement but not be locked solid. The damper could be defective.

Just as everyone else has said, if it's too tight or hitting the frame or engine it will vibrate. I have an LOTF damper on my '04 and love it. Tightened up the loosey goosey drivetrain feeling without objectionable vibration.

I'm no engineer, but, I do not that some engine motion is necessary and the car is designed for it. I'm not saying damping is bad, but, without proper engineering analysis, where, how and how restrictive you place the damper will produce unknown results. The engine movement mustg transfer somewhere, somehow.

You're correct, some engine movement is normal, though not really required (if you're a race car) and the damper just limits motion by converting the energy into heat. How tight you set the damper alters how restrictive it is, and how much movement it reduces (& converts into heat). The damper is a real tight fit in the confines of the Mini's engine bay, so it would be easy to put it in wrong & have it hit something metal. Then you have massive vibration for certain.

Without the damper, the stock Mini R53 engine mounts on my car might as well have been made of marshmallows they felt so soft. For a while I considered adding the early style secondary mount, as it looks like there was an integral damper.

Ditto on the marshmallows , however when we first started driving our car we found that sometimes we were in 4th gear and not 6th. It was so smooth if you didn't pay attention, you couldn't tell, so there is something good about those liquid filled marshmallows
