Centripital Superchargers and the like...

I'm actually very interested to see how the Rotrex optimization will pan out. It's basically a mechanical turbo (all marketing vocabulary aside) that has a slightly more efficient drive mechanism than the belts and gears that others use. It would be very interesting to see just how much more efficient the drive mechanism is....

As far as Don's post from Magnussen, it's right, as far as it goes. The Centripitals have done very, very well on some applications, like N/A V-8 conversions. These motors typically are pretty good down low, but loose breathing at the top, so the power adding curve of the centripital is well matched to the existing power fall off of the motor, and you get gobs of power (I was reading a story that went from about 300 to well over 450 HP just by adding a Vortex).

Now, putting one on a Mini is an interesting proposition. Independant of the drive mechanism, the centripitals have a "turbo-like" boost curve. With the low compression ratio of the motor, I wonder just how much will be available down low. Up top I have no doubts that this will scream. Will it be the best for you? That will depend on how you drive....

Matt

ps, now back to the dung slinging!
