"I was thinking of all the guys down at my local dirt track… "

No foam at our track either. We do use Outweares with the filters.

In a pinch Underoos will work too

True. True.

Also true that they are K&N sponsored drivers and teams. So in my mind anything they say is suspect. I work with an independent racing team regularly and they were joking one day that they would thank Satan and talk about his good work if he was as sponsor.

Hey it's your car, your choice. All I'm saying is do your own research & don't believe corporate shills.

I'm still pissed that AEM doesn't make a CAI for the MINI. They have an awesome proprietary filter that is better than both paper and foam. Plus it's dry so you don't have to worry about the filter oil screwing up your sensors.

So a better running dirty filter is really useless to me. I will stick to my K&N.

Yes they do. I have 1 on 1 of my cars.
And it would be very nice if AEM made a nice CAI for us.

"In a pinch Underoos will work too" Obe, I'll need to do some research on this. Could be you're onto something.

I have also read many other threads on forums about K&N filters and people having problems with their MAF sensor. Sounds like these people are drenching the filter in oil, then expecting their car to run smoothly. As long as you service the filter correctly, it will not cause any problems. I suppose if that is too much to ask, then an OEM filter would be a better choice. Some people want a maintenance free car, but I enjoy keeping it up. Diff'rent strokes.

I guess the point is, when you have so many people using your filters, some are going to do it incorrectly. Like this:

Just buy an Alta or K&N and put their filter on it. Easy-Peasy.

Easy-Peasy? AEM does not make a CAI for a Mini. You can buy an AEM filter but that's as far as it goes.... Some time ago I posted the merit of the dry AEM filter.

Either way, the point I was trying to make is that if you are going to claim that a product is the top choice of "Racing Professionals" it just better not be in a series that the manufacturer is sponsoring.
And I was thinking of my local dirt track guys too........lol.

I don't think it should be some great feat of engineering to put this on:

And then switch the filter for this:

Just get the rights size and length. What's not easy?

No doubt, it's easy to just install a filter. The point is, AEM does not make a CAI kit that is designed for a Mini. The Alta & M7 are designed to replace the existing air box as well as some of the existing OE components. It would be a plus if there was a "like" product for the Mini.

I thought I would share my CIA modification with you.
I have the ALTA CAI. I replaced the foam filter with a K&N Reverse Conical Air Filter with a the cap in BLUE

My MINI is "Alfie", a '05 S who lives outside in a dirt/gravel driveway. Note, I am a bit obsessive with keeping the engine bay clean, and detail it every time I wash my car.

Wow, clean.

So it's not so hard to switch filters on an intake. You can go to a K&N, AEM, HKS. . . pretty much anything. Just because the company doesn't make the whole apparatus themselves doesn't mean you can't make it happen.
